someone told me we could, but i don't know if he was just messing with me lol. i come from LA. :(

According to Lisa Bauer, a frequent guest speaker of Envi Sci 24 (a sustainability seminar I had last semester), the faucet water at Berkeley (that comes from EBMUD EBMUD Home) has to pass higher standards than do water bottle companies. She said that she's conducted tasting tests with the student groups she leads and that everyone thinks Berkeley's tap water tastes better.

So well, Lisa does drink from the tap herself but I live in the dorms and still use a Brita water filter just in case. You can get one from Walgreen's for $20-30 and the filters last for two months so it's more cost-effective than bottled water.

I'm from LA, too.

I'm from L.A. too. Of course you can drink the tap water and you SHOULD drink it, not the bottled water. Do you know how much oil is used making plastic bottles for water? And most water in bottles is just purified tap water anyways. I personally think anything sitting in a plastic bottle tastes nasty.

the tap water is great in berkeley.

If you like mineral water, you'll like Berkeley's water. In LA, I definitely notice the difference of how the water tastes when I brush my teeth. I miss that good ol' Berkeley tap water.

Yes, you can. I use a water filter (one of the Walgreen's ones mentioned earlier) just to be on the safe side.

The water out of the faucet in Berkeley is perfectly fine. I don't use a filter.

This is coming from a guy who grew up pretty wary of tap water.

EBMUD has good tasting water, though I prefer the taste through a filter. It's competely safe.

I've been drinking EBMUD water for almost six years and haven't had any ill effects. It's great, tastes great and looks great.

berkeley water is good, but all the socal kids still tote around their brita filters like purses around the dorms

I'm guilty of that. ._.

My cousin works for EBMUD. It's fine!

Berkeley tap water is perfectly good for drinking. I use a Brita filter to get rid of the very slight chlorine taste.

ahahahaha, i had the exact same question like two days ago... i'm in clark kerr (which is still really empty and gives me the heebie jeebies at night) and i asked some guy where the drinking water was... he laughed and said i was supposed to drink tap water

i'm from socal too, and i went out and bought the brita filter from walgreens

lol

^ Brita filters are good. Berkeley/SF tap water, and northern L.A. tap water for that matter, come from the Sierras.

The campus, unfortunately, will remain pretty empty until Monday. Clark Kerr is the country club atmosphere of Berkeley (large athlete population)...the drawback to Clark Kerr is that it's a little far from campus versus the Units, but its dining commons were excellent.

Good Luck.

Being from socal, the tap water in Berkeley tastes excellent in comparison. Yet my roomate from norcal uses a brita filter and I've heard a few of them complain about the water. I just tell them to move to socal! : /

btw I recommend using a nalgene water container. No need to get bottled water up here.
