I was wondering if anyone knows if the two applications can be similar. I wrote an essay for "why Oberlin" for the Conservatory that I really liked and I wanted to use pieces of it in the College "why Oberlin" essay.

Thanks

Bump, I am in the same boat and was hoping you had found an answer. Any luck?
I’m not an admissions officer (just another applicant!) but I would think certain elements could be similar – things that relate to the culture of the college (e.g., history of social activism, curious and creative students, hundreds of performances every year) or opportunities that are available to any student (e.g., co-ops, Winter Term, EXCO).
You obviously have a strong interest in music, so in your college essay, you could note the opportunities to continue musical studies in the college even if you’re not technically enrolled in the conservatory. But I’d think you’d want to differentiate the essays a bit to explore what specifically you hope to get out of conservatory studies versus college studies. So I’d guess 75% the same, 25% unique to the specific program. And if you’re applying for double degree, I’d mention that in both, but make it clear that you’d remain interested in the school if only admitted to the college or only admitted to the conservatory (assuming that’s true). Good luck!
