So I was reviewing all of my rejections yesterday, and while I have backups (no worries there), I have read stories about kids appealing directly to admissions about their
decisions, and have read on multiple occasions that this has worked for students. Is this
actually true, or is it simply a myth?

Cheers. And congrats to everyone accepted yesterday. You truly deserve it.

You can make an appeal if there is some gross mistake or oversight in materials you submitted plus if you were borderline (such as being on the WL). Otherwise, it won’t make a difference.

Why? Because they would receive thousands of appeals. All decisions final.

I’m not even sure a “gross mistake or oversight” would get you reconsideration at this point. Yale decisions are final. Out of fairness to the admissions staff, they work hard to carefully consider each applicant and it would not be possible to once again go through applications of thousands of truly qualified but rejected applicants. It is good that you applied to a range of schools and have at least one acceptance that you are happy about. This once again brings to mind the CC mantra “Love your safeties”.
