Can you change majors during freshmen year first quarter?

This is week 2 of UCR and I am currently a Chemical Engineering major in but want to change to Mechanical Engineering. Since they are both part of BCOE would that make it easy to switch? I also saw on the ME Catalog thing that the first ME class starts in the winter quarter.

Also, on the major change requirement page, there were different requirements you needed depending on how many units u have. The first section was for people with 0-45 units. How can you have any requirements done if you have no units yet?

You are a Freshman, so you use the 0-45 category. You take Math 9A/9B/Physics 40A and need a 2.5 GPA. You also need to take ENGL 1A and get a C or better. After you have fulfilled these requirements, you can request a change of major. You cannot change your major during the 1st quarter.
