I’ve really been thinking about moving to Germany after I graduate high school, but I’m not sure that I want to hold off my education and just live with my exchange partner for a year, so I’m considering studying in Germany as an international student. I was wondering if it is at all possible to receive a bachelor’s (or equivalent) from a university in Germany and then come back to America for med school? Also, I do not quite understand the German university system. Is there an equivalent to a bachelor’s that would suffice to get into med school? Thank you!
With the exception of maybe 6-10 US medical schools (mostly osteopathic programs), degrees earned at foreign institutions are not acceptable for med school admission consideration.
AMCAS, the clearinghouse used for allopathic med school admissions, will not accept or verify transcripts from foreign academic institutions.
(exceptions are here: https://services.aamc.org/AMCAS2_2010/WebApp/Help/WebHelp/ForeignCoursework.htm)
AACOMAS (clearinghouse for osteopathic medical schools) will not accept or verify foreign transcripts either, but individual osteopathic medical schools may.
US medical schools require a minimum number of credits (typically 90 credits) to be earned at an accredited US or Canadian college. All med school pre-reqs must be completed at a US or Canadian college.
