Can you go to Columbia for a M.F.A. major in Film without a bachelor's degree? Is that how it works?

I've noticed that Columbia have an M.F.A. and M.A. program in Film but it does not have a B.F.A. or B.A. program in film.

However, on their film school website, it has an undergraduates link. I'm just wondering how the film program at Columbia works and whether you can apply to it your senior year of high school... Thanks! :)

You do not apply for a master’s degree from high school.

?

There you go.

but this doesn’t answer my question… the link obviously states that there is an undergraduate film major but the only one they have is MFA??

What is it that you do not understand??? It is a Film Studies major in the Bachelor of Arts program.

No it’s not… it’s a MFA but their site says that undergraduates can get the MFA degree!!!

Call Columbia on Monday and they will explain it to you since you are unable to understand the website. .

@blourring, the link that moliss sent you is “UNDERGRADUATE film studies major”
Undergraduate, by definition means bachelors. Every other single dept at Columbia does not have a link for “Bachelors in English” or “Bachelors in Chemistry” . It’s a given. The reason why MFA is listed is to give potential grad school applicants info about the program.

No one without a BA can get an MFA. Some dual programs (BA/MFA) exist. Unless you see evidence of that here (and it’d be obvious) then you’re simply being tripped up and not understanding.

Columbia does not offer a BFA, only BAs. You must have a bachelors before applying to any Masters program
