I am unfamiliar with most things regarding college and I don't have people in my family that are familiar with the types of degrees and all that. It is my understanding that I can pursue a 4 year degree in Film (the technical aspects of filmmaking) and go on to grad school for Cinema Studies. Is that right, or do I have to get my 4-year degree in the same subject? Also... what is an "M.F.A"? it was on princetonreview.com saying that it might be an option for those studying Cinema Studies that want to also pursue filmmaking. So it that a Cinema Studies cirriculum mixed with more hands-on stuff?

You don't have to get your grad degree in the same subject as your undergrad degree. Since film is a pre-professional major, you theoretically should be able to get a job without having to go to grad school. A MFA is a Master's in Fine Arts. it can help boost your resume and credentials, but in the end, it's the quality of your work and not your degree that will determine how successful your career is.

The point is to have something to fall back on in case the risky career of artist doesn't work out as planned. If I get a degree in cinema studies or film conservation or something then I can try and perfect my craft while actually having a "real" career.
