Can you? Even if you're white or asian and you go to a really good public school that sends 80 people to ivy league every year and even if these grades are from junior year with other years being mostly As?

Having Cs and Bs really doesn’t matter, what matters is your GPA where Cs and Bs do matter. If you have Cs and Bs your GPA generally isn’t going to be top of the line which you need for ivys. Also your SAT needs to be killer if you have Cs. What is your GPA and rank and SAT and ECs?

let’s say SATs are around 2330-2360
sat 2s all over 760
school doesn’t rank
ecs are community focused based. fundraisers through organization created by the student. president’s volunteer service award. etc.

What is your GPA

4.08…weighted. school only has weighted.

Depending on what major and what school, if you have great recs and essays then yes.

thanks for all the replies. you’re very kind :)

Are those Cs and Bs semester or final grades?

Good luck btw :)

these grades are junior year grades. As I mentioned in the original post

It’s possible, since you have 4.08 in the end you definitely have a chance. If your SAT score is around 2200-2300 you’re chances will go way up (: apply to non-ivy leagues too though, i mean there are some good schools out there not on the east coast lol. good luck don’t stress too much.

a school you might want to think about is boston college… a great non-ivy school… im going to visit there next week as part of a school trip to boston so ill tell you about it

good luck

Yes 2330+ will make up for a low GPA. What is the breakdown of your junior year classes? You can calculate it yourself. If you post, I can do it for you.

Yeah my school is different from your’s…so do you go by final, semester, or quarter grades when you send stuff to college?

4.08 is the weighted gpa that went to colleges. my school doesn’t send unweighted.
I took 4 APs, 2 honors, and one elective junior year…and 10 APs in total (including senior year). And…I’ve gotten 5s and 4s on all my APs…haha, I’m not sure if that makes any difference though.

I’ve definitely applied to state schools, and I don’t mind at all not going to ivy league. I was just wondering if it was even possible to get in with these grades–the people on the results threads on cc have amazing gpas.

I’m mainly worried about the fact that my worst grades were junior year. I usually get straight As with maybe 2 Bs sophomore year, but junior year I started taking classes in subjects I am not good in at all. I didn’t drop out of them because I was maintaining a B average but I failed the final exams and by then it was…too late. :/

Oh well. I can’t fault anyone besides myself. ![]()
But thanks for all the help guys! you guys are so awesome!

Most colleges, particularly most Ivy Leagues, don’t look at the GPA a lot. They focus mainly on the rigor of your classes and sometimes calculate in their own way what your UW GPA is.

Do you want an honest answer? Those Cs will really hurt you at the most selective schools, especially if they are in academic subjects. You might possibly counteract them with high scores AND some particularly impressive ECs or achievements. But you will need to have a realistic list of schools.

you guys are being way too nice.
there is really only like 10% chance

you need at least 3.9 unweighted
those grades leave you at like 3.6 unweighted
You can’t “make up” grades with SAT, you need them both.

Although your SAT scores are impressive, they aren’t consistent with your grades. A high SAT score but lower grades tells the colleges that you are smart enough to get A’s, but are too lazy to do so. The rigor of your classes may convince them to think otherwise, but those grades will hurt your chances a lot.

Your chances are pretty small, especially if that steep decline was in your Junior year.

Despite the grades junior year, I think you have a good chance at the low ivies. 2360 is a top score for these schools, which usually accept scores of 2100-2200.
