It won’t be comfortable at all, but it is entirely possible. You can even get away with sleeping in computer labs, RLM, The Q in the honors quad, and plenty of other places on campus.

Wouldn’t recommend it at all though. Take out some loans and hope for the best.

You’d be so uncomfortable, you wouldn’t be able to store food, cook, or have guests over, if you were sick you’d be stuck in a crowded car, during the summer you’d have to either burn up or keep the car running or sleep outside (and vice-versa during winter), you’d have to find a safe place to park where police wouldn’t find you and make you move, etc, etc - plus, where would you shower or go to the bathroom? o_O

It’s feasible I guess if there’s NO other option but you would be just miserable.

It is possible but you are technically considered to be homeless according to the HUD and the Department of Housing because the definition of homelessness is “means lacking fixed, regular and adequate housing, which includes living in shelters, motels, or cars, or temporarily living with other people because the student had nowhere else to go.”

Then again if you are homeless you are considered an independent on your FAFSA so you could be eligible for more aid like a Pell Grant.

It’s not a ■■■■■ question. If they make you buy a meal plan, you can shower at the student activity center, spend days and evenings on campus, and park your car somewhere creative… Worst case, parking legally and safely could cost some money.

I’m really not ■■■■■■■■. It’s more of an idea in passing than a serious consideration, but I heard UT doesn’t give very good financial aid. My EFC will definitely not be that high (no more than a few thousand at most) and if they don’t give enough for housing, what else could I do?

When I was in my first year of graduate school, one of my fellow students did live in his car. A prof found out, took pity on him and let him sleep on the couch in his office. I think he showered in the gym and ate where and when he could.

Sell the car,($2000-$3000, ) and use that money to rent an apartment for 2-3 months (roughly a semester), also get a part time job now( month 1) so you’ll be able to still pay your rent at month 4 ( because by that time your car profits will be done). GOOD LUCK… ( or you can just live out your car)

I had a friend who tried this but bailed after one semester because it was not working well for him. He was not sleeping in a car but hiding in buildings (needed heat). He had two big issues … one, he did not have any permanent place to store his stuff even as minimal as it was … two, not having his own place eventually wore him down; not having a room to go to to take a nap or just to chill out for awhile or to study/work in without having to trek to a library (especially on real late nights). To me this one of things that looks doable on paper but practically is often much tougher to do.
