Okay, I just figured out I am completely screwed over with housing.

I received enough financial aid to pay for my tuition and books, however housing is only possible with the student loans UT offered me. A friend of mine offered to let me rent her place (her parents own it and she's living there too) essentially, I'd use the den's futon. I chose to do it because it was an affordable option (at about two hundred a month). I recently found out that she has changed her mind and will not allow me to stay. I asked her if this arrangement was definite before declining my loans. I essentially have a couple of months to find affordable housing and I don't know where to begin. The cheapest places I've been able to find are six hundred a month or so.

I welcome any advice. Yes, I know I should have had a back up, but I was quite certain this arrangement would not fall through.

Are you dead set against loans? Well, can’t blame you. But those loans are meant to help. Maybe consider the subsidized ones (don’t collect interest until six months after you graduate or leave school)? You can always call the OSFS and ask for reconsideration if you altered your e-fan and accepted it already.

$200 is dirt cheap. Shame that happened. $600-700 and decent is the best I think I could find in West Campus. Do NOT look into the Goodall Wooten no matter how cheap or desperate you get. lol

Try Craigslist, but be careful. If you were near the Austin area, I’d say go around campus looking at those round bulletin board trunk things. There’s always somebody looking to room with someone who’s most likely just another college student like you.

It’s known that you can find cheaper housing that’s not in West Campus, but I think then you have to commute and things get complicated. If you’re a freshman too, that sounds like starting the hard way. And ya miss out on the loud noise and crowded parking lol.

There are little no-name complexes scattered between high rises in West Campus that might have good deals. You might want to check with them. Find an apartment guide book or a real estate person (at free of charge!).

Those are just my two cents. Tricky sitch. Good luck though!

Also, thanks for the responses. I am getting in contact with an agent and plan to visit Austin. I only have two weeks to do this before I go out of town. Thank you again
