I’m thinking about going to a division 3 college and playing both tennis and track, which are in the same season. Would coaches look down on it and just want you to focus on their sport?
I’d be very surprised if the scheduling worked out for you to do that. While D3 sports are meant to be more low key than D1sports, they are still quite serious. In addition to the practices, there is often quite a bit of travel. How about winter track and tennis?
Hmm, in high school I was managed to do both but I guess D3 is still on a whole different level then.
I didn’t know colleges have winter track, do all do? Is it like winter track in high school where it really isn’t as serious as spring track and is rather a short season?
I know several D3 athletes who compete during two separate seasons but none who juggle two sports simultaneously.
So it won’t be realistic for me do something like this then? I guess the travel part makes sense since I might miss some meets as a result.
Winter track is indoor track. Are you a sprinter or distance? If you run distance you could do cross country and tennis.
My D does track at a D3 school and I think it would be near impossible for her to do another sport at the same time, she has a meet every weekend through most of May and practice every day. She is crazy busy and honestly often overwhelmed with just one sport. Generally almost every sport at the school has practice at the same time, late afternoon into early evening when there are no classes scheduled though some like swimming also have morning practices. There are quite a few students on the track team who do a fall or winter sport like soccer or swimming so doing indoor track in the winter and tennis in the spring should be doable.
I am a Sprinter(the 55m and 60m are actually my best events).
I would try to see if you can split them into two seasons…like Cross Country Fall and Tennis Spring…or Indoor Track Winter andTennis Spring …also you need to see how you do in school…can you handle it all?
Uh, I am a sprinter so I can’t do cross country. I know I can handle it all.
