I applied as a bio major or pre med to all of these schools hoping to go to medical school one day. I just want to know the ranking based off of best for medical school and reputation.
Michigan State
Auburn
Binghamton
Cornell
Syracuse
NYU
Villanova
UMiami
UConn
Ohio State
Penn State
Boston University
University of Maryland
Look them up in the US News or Forbes rankings (or any alternate ranking you think better reflects your values). The opinions of a few random CC posters probably won’t give you a better basis than a national ranking based on published criteria. Of course, every ranking is based on somebody’s opinion about which criteria are most important and how best to measure them.
Observation: Your list contains many public universities, which generally do not offer very good need-based aid to out-of-state students. Depending on your family financial circumstances, you may be able to get lower net costs from private schools that range in selectivity somewhere between BU and Cornell. However, if your family income is above (but not too far above) ~$180K, OOS public universities may represent good values. Keep in mind that medical schools are extremely expensive (and generally don’t offer much FA other than loans).
Based solely off prestige and ranking (not a good way to pick a college!):
Cornell
NYU
Boston University
Villanova
UMiami
University of Maryland
Penn State
Ohio State
Syracuse
UConn
Michigan State
Binghamton
Auburn
Which school do you believe gives you the best chance to earn the highest GPA you are capable of? If you are thinking med school that is going to be a much bigger factor in whether you make it or not than “prestige.”
Maryland’s average SAT scores are 135 points higher than Penn State’s. On one list Maryland is listed 5 places lower than Penn State. Binghamton, with its similarly higher SAT scores, six places lower. The poster did acknowledge being not very familiar with these schools. SATs aren’t everything, but I think these schools would have been better left off this particular list.
The growing trend of threads where strangers personally rank college based on prestige is quite alarming. OP, please take into consideration that every post is subjective and biased and is no way to actually judge where you should go. There are more factors than just what tickles someone’s fancy at a barbecue.
