I got a 3 on the AP Chemistry test and Im not exactly very happy with it. I was originally aiming for at least a 4. On all of the practice tests I did I got either a 4 or 5 on. Not to mention I got an A in my AP Chemistry class and a 700 on SAT Chem. Im really disappointed in myself. :(
So I was wondering if its worth it to retake the test next year? Im questioning whether I should cause for one they are changing the format of the test and Ill be taking AP Physics next year. Would I even remember the material for chemistry when May comes? Also if I do retake the test, would colleges receive both scores?

No, depends, yes.

Re-take the test only if your life depends on it. If you really need the college credit to be able to take other classes, then go ahead. If you did well in AP Chemistry like you said you did, then you should remember most of the material on it. Otherwise, don’t bother. Only retake it if you realy want to. A 3 will not kill you, and just taking the class/test prepares you for college level Chemistry (or at least it should).

Retaking is only going to help you if you actively study throughout the year and legitimately try to understand the material better. Hoping you remember chemistry material in May is NOT a good strategy. You have to be dedicated to retake a test.

Whether it’s worth it depends on your college. If they accept a three, there’s no good reason to retake unless it’s a pre-req to a higher-level class you want to take. Even then it’s not necessarily something you need to do. If you understand the material but just had a bad test day then you’ll be fine. It also depends on how much you study… because chances are you won’t do nearly as well if you don’t study a lot.

do you really want to pay almost 100 dollars to maybe score better on a test that doesn’t even count that much?

Many colleges don’t accept a 3 as credit. So if you’re going to one of these colleges (and want credit), or want to place into an honors chemistry class in college then retaking might be a good idea. It’s highly unlikely that you’ll remember the material enough to pass the second time around unless you do lots of review.

You better off take the class in a community college for the credit. Or just take it in college.
