I'm a sophomore...I might consider taking it soon....as practice? Wouls I be able to take the psat as a junior though?

Yeah, but it's kind of a waste of money to pay so much for the SAT to practice for it. I recommend you buy the Blue Book if you really wanna practice for the SAT, you'll do better on it when it really counts.

Yes, you can take the PSAT that counts as a Jr. Your best practice is under strict time and setting control. It's a small price to pay to achieve that.

Taking the SAT will not interfere in any way with your ability to take the PSAT. At geekson's school, sophomores take the PSAT as practice for junior year. geekson also took the SAT in the spring of his sophomore year in order to qualify for community college classes. He used the blue book from College Board to prepare for the SAT. Prepping for the SAT turned out to be all the preparation he needed for the PSAT. The tests are fairly similar, except the PSAT is graded differently (no penalty for incorrect answers) and doesn't require an essay. But the PSAT is not a prerequisite for the SAT, and taking the SAT "early" doesn't preclude taking the PSAT later.

^ PSAT is graded the same way, there is a penalty for wrong answers just like the SAT. The only difference is that it's shorter and has no essay.

i'll just second diamondbacker, the -.25 for wrong answers does also apply to psat
