--In case you wanted to add another school, for example?

If you want to add a school you do it under Fafsa Corrections - there is a link to add or delete schools.

thanks. So would this be possible?

1) On Tues, submit fafsa for 2 schools

then

2) EDIT--Next Tues, enter Fafsa Corrections, and

delete those 1st two schools
add two new schools
and
submit fafsa

So, on Friday, would it be the case that

my fafsa is sent to

college1
college2
college3
college4

?

the fafsa rep on the phone said that if I deleted those first two schools, they would not get my corrected info, but would still have the original version.

I guess that would be the idea - if I did not want colleges 3 and 4 to see colleges 1 and 2 - and vice versa.

any experience or knowledge on this process?

I would be much more concerned about getting the FAFSA filed as early as possible after Jan 1 instead of worrying if the schools saw each other. What schools are you talking about?

@joecollegedad

On Tues submit FAFSA and list schools 1,2,3. When your submission shows "processed", print your SAR:

You can now go back through corrections and delete schools 1,2,3 and add 4,5,6 - wait for that to show processed and print your SAR

You now have 2 Transactions with separate SAR's (same info, diff schools)

You can repeat the process if you want to add more schools.

Now, when you want to update your info (2007 tax) you go to each individual transaction (also through corrections) and change your figures. You submit each transaction separately. The updated figures will be sent to the schools listed on each transaction.

I hope my explanation isn't too confusing!

Does FAFSA send the report to the colleges on the list at the SAME time they send you the SAR?

Then after you make the corrections (updating with 2007 info), they then send another report to the schools? I am guessing the colleges will only retrieve the updates.

I was told (by calling Fafsa) that once your submission is processed it is made available to the colleges electronically. The colleges dowload the information according to their own schedules, some do it daily, others weekly, etc. The updated reports work the same way. To me it sounds very similar to the way most colleges access SAT & ACT scores.

rlm919, RIGHT!

i just learned from a fafsa presentation at the HS YESTERDAY that getting fafsa in is more about getting in line than the absolute quality of the data!! I wish they had the presentation, or at least this basic msg, earlier. the hs was proabably waiting til all the w2 s were in (which is contrary to the msg I just stated!)

So I guess the idea is - get fafsa in, get in line, and then change the heck out of it - if need be - thru corrections.

btw, I am speaking of a bunch of small mw lac's (50-100, usnr) and two big mw unis, iowa and IU-bloomington

the presenter yesterday also said that FAOs are WAY too busy right about now to worry what other colleges any one student is sending FA app to.

how long does it take to get to the 'processed' status?

we submitted the first group of three today, and four later, it actually says, 'application not found' when I select 'make a correction to a processed fafsa'.

I sure hope the app has not been deleted. Actually, the status says, 'processing'.

The site says something like 3-4 days but mine was actually processed in one day. I submitted on 1/31 and it was processed 2/1.

You have to give it a minimum of 24 hrs. Go to FAFSA Follow Up (step 3) and click on Check Status of a Submitted FAFSA ....

sta said--

Can you delete/add schools WITHOUT going through corrections. I notice that there are separate entries, or functions, one for corrections, the other for add-delete.

For the second bunch, we simply went to the add-delete schools. It said the corrections took, but I was not sure what the content was since I could not find a button for printing out the report on the confirmation page.

"Corrections on the Web" is the FAFSA website's official name for Step 3 - FAFSA Follow-Up. I think that's what sta800 was probably referring to when they said go through corrections. This is what comes up when you select Add or Delete a School Code using Step 3:

Add or Delete a School Code

Corrections on the Web allows you to add or delete a school code to your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and submit the corrections electronically. To access your processed FAFSA data, you will need to have a Federal Student Aid PIN.

Even though FAFSA allows you to add/delete schools WITHOUT making a correction to your financial data they consider it a "correction".

What you quoted is right, that is the way to add/delete a school code.

sta800, it seems to take a LONG time to a simple add/del of a school. it says three days. ouch. long time just to bunch some schools together for a transaction. On the other hand, how BAD would it seem to nice upstanding, morally upright polly purebread, personally oriented small LAC that another nice upstanding, morally upright polly purebread ACCEPTED student applicant had 12, yes 12 other schools, in polly's sights?

the initial fasfa add tran took less than a day.

<quote>Transaction is Being Processed</quote>

You already have a transaction that is waiting to be processed, so you will have to wait to submit a correction. Correction records are typically processed within three days.

@joecollegedad

You can’t add/delete a school, or update figures, unless your first original fafsa submission is processed. After that, each time you make a correction or add/delete a school a new transaction is created. Has your original transaction (01) been processed? How many transactions do you have at this point? Maybe you are trying to add/delete from say transaction (03) which many not have finished processing?

My changes were all processed within a day, respectively. But I did do it earlier on so I don’t know if the system may be working slower right now.

As for your other question:

I have absolutely no idea.

I was just responding to your OP:

can you submit FAFSA more than once? -- In case you wanted to add another school, for example?

yes, tran 01 is ain a processed state, and it took about a day or less. The correction is taking three days.

My other question was not directed to you, sta800. Just one of my rhetorical questions to the world. :)

I've heard from pros in the FA area that they do not see the other schools, that they see the other schools, but don't care, that computer programs sets the package values up, and that human FAOs set each package manually. I know in my special adjustment case there will be a manually setting for sure.
