Can you take ap English literature if you fail ap English language

So I got a 1 on the language exam but I pass my Ap class with a B. So I’m scared to get kicked out of literature even though I have my summer assignment for it. Am I qualify to be in literature.

Admittance to an AP course is dictated by the policies of your HS.

I think a lot of schools don’t necessarily make AP Lang a prerequisite for AP Lit - as in, juniors in some schools can pick whether they want to AP Lang before AP Lit, or AP Lit before AP Lang. I think you’ll be fine, but still check with your school. Your guidance counselor should know best about this and be able to help you the most.

You may want to brush up on your grammar.

@marvin100 this is CollegeConfidential, not YouTube. Don’t be too particular about others’ grammar, especially in an informal forum such as this one. You never know who might be an international poster/immigrant for whom English is a second or third language.

It’s a thread about English class. The advice to make sure their grammar is up to par (is that why they failed Lang?) is very relevant.

@bodangles aight well i’m jus sayin im not always super fastidious abt my grammar online evn tho i hav stellar writing scores and stuf

While I agree about the irony of having a grammar error in a thread about English literature, I have to agree more with @normanxi that correcting spelling and grammar on the internet is a bit much, especially when people are typing on their phones, there is auto correct (which is a funny name given how often it does anything but) and/or people just aren’t really being that fastidious about perfect paragraphs. At the very least put a  at the end to show you aren’t being too serious.

Sure, it was just a quip. No offense intended. I do suspect, though, that someone who scored a 1 on AP Lang should brush up on basic conventions of SWE.

It depends on your school’s policies. At my school, they only consider your English score from the previous year (i.e. a 90+). Talk to your guidance counselor about this when you have the chance.

As long as your teacher recommended you for the class (if you have such things at your school), should be fine. An AP test doesn’t really reflect the full extent of your ability to excel in an English class.
