Can you transfer within a year?

Hi, I just graduated from high school this june.

I didn't have enough money for UC's and didn't wanted to go to UCSB so I decided to go to SMC.

Currently, I'm taking 19 units (my first semester) and I'm wondering if I would have enough units to transfer within 1 year.

Please let me know.

thinking about UCLA - Computer science and engineering major

Class schedule - CS 3(they didn't allow me to go directly to C++), Physics 21 (mechanic) ,physics 22(e&m), differential equation, english 1

I'm planning to take 12 units in winter and 20+ units in the spring if I can transfer within a year.

I've took AP classes in high school and here are the scores:

AP Physics C - Mechanic:4 E&M : 4
AP Cal AB - 5
AP Cal BC - 4

Please let me know. Thank You

P.S: I've took English 21, Statistics, and Psychology 1 in LACC and I can bring it over to here. (I dunno if this is going to help me anyways)

I don't think you'll find the answers you are looking for here. Talk to a counselor at your college, and go to the UC website and see what you can learn. You also could call UCLA and see if you could talk to someone there. Usually, kids transfer after 2 years, although it can be done if you have enough credits.

i think you can only transfer to UCs if you have 60 credits which is usually after your sophmore year.

chris is right about 60 units. It doesn't really mater how long it'll take to get there.

I know people who transfered after one year.

Ur majors are very competetive though.

It;s worth the try.

No you wouldnt get in your fist year. When you apply to either UCLA or UCB, you want to have your major requirments finished, which i am sure you dont yet. That means you would have had to at least finished them in the summer and have already applied with your grades. Just take your time and apply after 2 years. Dont be in such a rush, enjoy life

there is something called the fast track honors. it allows students to transfer to UCLA after one year of CC work.

south, we had a member of this board transfer to berk after one year. It's doable.

http://www.piercecollege.com/students/honors/FastTrackHonors.aspx

One year is definitely achievable, but the students who do that almost always have AP credits from high school. The only way you can finish 60 units by the end of next semester would be if you have maybe 4 to 5 AP classes from high school, translating to maybe 20 college semester units. So you can take ~20 units per semester in your CC and transfer in time.

I'm not saying its not doable, i am just saying its highly unlikely. I am just trying to point out there is not rush to finish as fast as possible. He is plannig to take 12units in 6 weeks for winter. That is a hell of a lot. I am just giving a different prospective. He may crash and burn, i dont know, so its just another perspective

I transferred in 1 year, with a 4.0. But my major was Philosophy, which if you're passionate about, is easier to get a 4.0 in. I'm at Cal now. For a science major with labs or engineering, it will be hard for sure. But yes, it is possible. PM me if you have any questions.
