Hi everyone,
I'm new to this site, i just found it while googling "transfer student" so please excuse my ignorance. Anyways I was wondering if anyone has every transfer in one year at a ccc to a UC and if so how hard was it?
Thanks

It is doable, but it’s not very fun either.

This one girl I met at UCLA’s orientation accumulated over 60 units in on year. She took 15 in the summer, 25+ in the fall, and another 25+ in the spring. In addition to that she had to work around 20 hours a week. Needless to say, she didn’t find it fun at all.

I myself did 28 units in one semester, and although I found it very manageable (it is CC after all), I really wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

In conclusion, yes it is doable, but what’s the hurry?

Well if you must know,
I actually got accepted to Cal and UCLA earlier this year but my local cc has given me a scholarship. Also i have 8 A.P classes completed from high school, i dont know how many units i will get for them yet. I was really just being curious I wouldn’t mind doing two years at all.

Really depends on your major. It will be very difficult to transfer in one year if you’re pre-med or majoring in any science/engineering given the amount of prerequisites required. To see if your CC gives credit for the AP’s you passed, look at their catalog (should be available online).

You got a scholarship from your CC? They are covering the massive $20/unit fee? Assuming you got a full 2 year scholarship, that is how much? $1200-$1500? If you really want the college “experience” just take your freshman acceptance and take some loans and what grants you can. Enjoy your 4 years. If you truly want to save as much money as possible, go to CC. No point in rushing out in 1 year either. CC can be fun too. Remember, the CD girls (cute/dumb) litter CC campuses. Always offer to study.

very doable, i know plenty who easily did it while working as well. AP scores from high school definately helped them, but it also depends on your major as well. Just letting you know, they ask you for your high school transcript as well if you decide to finish in a year. I have two friends who finished in 1 year and one of them didnt do so well in high school… didnt get in even with a good gpa at a cc. However, my other friend who had pretty good grades in hs got into ucla and cal. It definately wont be fun, but im sure you can manage. Good luck!

^ no, im a poli sci major as well. I took 5 pre-reqs which is the required amount. It shouldnt be that hard if you manage your time well, but if you are doing honors then you might need more time idk

I was able to transfer to a UC Berkeley from a CC within a year. I’m a Political Science major. It wasn’t that hard…just very time-consuming. I also worked and was active on-campus.

If you intend on doing this, I highly advise you to road-map which classes to take as opposed to just taking a bunch of units for the hell of it. Get done with a good amount of major prereqs plus the basic english classes (engl 100/engl 1a) and a math course the first semester before you start taking the “filler” classes.

Also prepare for your social life to slowly fade away… you’ll know this is occurring once you realize that you spend way too much time on this board.

Thanks everyone for they’re input! I will probably decide to transfer in a year if possible, i have no life anyways =D.
RCC Norco has offered me a full ride schlorship as far as i know so the smart thing to do would be take advantage of it and get free classes for General Ed. anyways.
Oh yeah and again i really have no life really im kinda anti-social =/.

You know CC is like $20 a semester unit. So for like 75 units (way more than you need for transfer) that’s only $1500… It’s super easy to get fin-aid at a community college as well to have them waive part of or almost all of the $20 a unit fee. This is why many of us are confused when you say “CC scholarship.” As such a thing would be really petty if it existed. Definitely doesn’t make sense to say you are going to a CC because of the “scholarship.” You are going there because you want to save two years worth of UC tuition+housing, and CC is a super cheap alternative.

very possible, a lot of people do it. there is even a group of people on here who got the ged or whatnot and went to community college and are transferring at 17
