So I’m planning on majoring in civil engineering in college and I have started to think about what type of laptop I want. Mac or PC? Some people say you can use either and others say you need a PC. I’m leaning toward a mac but could be happy with a PC too. Any input would be great!
Yeah. You may need a virtual machine to run windows, depending on your college. But you can definitely use a mac. However, you should check with your schools just to make sure. Some are more mac-friendly than others.
You can run a virtual machine (which tends to be slower, so probably not great for something like solid works) or set up a dual boot so you can turn your computer on to OSX or Windows.
Pretty much any school will also have engineering computer labs that have all the software you’ll need (because at some point you’ll probably be required to use some program that you don’t want to pay $500 for). You could also use that instead of setting up Windows on a Mac.
