Canadian students

What forms do Canadian students (permanent residents) need to complete in order to be eligible for financial aid? CSS?

Thanks.

You need to carefully read the website of each college you intend to apply to – and then make sure you read their financial aid sections AND any sections for international students.

The CSS Profile is usually used for private colleges. I don’t know that a public university would require it. Occasionally you will find that a college has its own forms. All of this is why you have to comb through the requirements for each college individually.

We are in very hard economic times. I think it may be very hard to come up with aid for an international student at many schools. Many times international students are “Full pay” students supported by their home government. No doubt there are exceptions – but you may have to look long and hard to find much.

Are you a Canadian citizen who is a permanent legal resident in the US? In this case, you would file the FAFSA for all colleges/universities, and the CSS Profile for the ones that require it.

Are you a foreign citizen who is a permanent resident in Canada? In this case you would apply as an International Student to colleges/universities in the US, and you would need to check each one’s website for specific financial aid application information.

I think she’s a permanent resident of Canada. I don’t think she lives in the US.

If so, then you can’t fill out FAFSA, but you can use CSS Profile or other required forms for the schools that give aid to internationals.

Keep in mind that most schools do not have aid for internationals. And some that do, have limited funds.

Thank you all.
