Canadian thread...calling all Canucks

From Vancouver as well :)
I've been accepted at Bishop's and Emily Carr, but I've already turned down Emily Carr. Still waiting on McGill (my application has been 'ready for review' for three months, swear to god!) and I got rejected from Oberlin yesterday. First rejection, so it hurt, but I guess in the end I just wasn't meant to be in Ohio! Still waiting on some more LACs, Harvard and Brown. I'm hoping I get into McGill before the rejection letters start coming, it'll soften the blow!

mynameisrose, i have a few pointers if you want them...
1. Take the SAT's EARLY, and study for them EARLY. Don't leave them till the last minute (aka Dec and Jan), like I did. You will get screwed over lol (like i did haha).

Plan a good list of schools early (ones that you're very serious about). And by early, i mean by the end of summer/beginning of september of senior year.

Talk to your teachers and guidance counsellors early in the senior year for rec's. Supportive teachers helps a lot, esp guidance counsellors.

Start your essays in the summer, you'll be thanking yourself while studying for first semester exams.

That's all i can come up with right now, but i did everything the opposite, except for #3. So i had a rough time lol

seriously?

@canuckbreakwater

if you’re a canadian, mcgill doesn’t require SATs. A lot of kids from my school who didnt plan on going to the states, and therefore didnt take SATs, are going to McGill…

That said ,you are allowed to offer them if youd like.

EDIT: oops didnt realize that was from last year…

any other Canadians willing to offer advice and perspectives about the admission process to American schools and what types of grades, scores, ECs and everything else??

all they care about are your SATs, anything over 1800 is great, btw the US school that I applied to made me do a grades conversion, so basically anything 80-100 = A, 70-79=B, etc.

is there any Canadian college that provides internationals with a full ride (fee and accommodation)?
tnx

@ madcow043

what do u mean a grade conversion…like your counselour did that
and what schools did u apply to/get in

I mean like you tell your school to send a transcript to this organization (CED) and they convert the grades and send it to the US school you’re applying to. (btw it costs money), I got in MCPHS (Massachusetts college of pharmacy & health sciences) It is not a top school or anything, I only chose it because of the program that it offers (PharmD).
