totally relative to the student in question

Am I detecting a certain amount of doubt, dragzta, that some how, Canadian universities can not measure up to their American counterparts? ;)

I can assure you that is not the case.

[url=http://www.unl.edu/amc/a-activities/a7-problems/putnamindex.shtml]Putnam Directory/url

Go ahead and check the last dozen years or so, and you will be surprised how well we compare to our “expensive” American cousins.

yes …

because on most of the forums , even this one, most of the people just think top canadian unis like mcgill uoft waterloo cannot be compared to top US schools…

most argue that top canadian schools (mcgill waterloo uoft) match up to the standards of just good or slightly better than average unis of the US, not the top ones…

that is why im all starting threads etc regarding canadian unis in comparison to the US unis…

im in a fix… because so many people have said that US is US… canadian unis dont match up to the US unis standards… that is why im asking wether itll be a wise decision to attend McGill for mechanical engineering(undergrad), because waterloos co-op program is only for canadian citizens or residents so it becomes expensive… and uoft is more expensive than mcgill anyway…?

so basically the crux of my question is that, would doing my undergrad in mechanical engineering from mcgill hamper my chances of getting into a top US school for grad studies?

Northwestern(#33) and UC-Berkeley(#36) are 15-18 spots below Michigan.

WUSTL(#60) and Emory(#62) are weaker peers of the University of Washington(#59) … actually I agree with this one except UDub should be higher.

Rice at #78 is almost out of first tier … Geez, this is fun.

If you check the performance of Canadian schools, particularly Waterloo and U of T, in the Putnam and the ACM over a number of years, you can see how we match up against American schools.

Deeds speak louder than words. I would not heed whose who are not in the know. My first degree is Canadian and my second is American. American grad schools know too, believe me.

True be told, an honours degree here is more advance than an American 4 year degree. Grading is tougher as well. Whether you can get into an elite American grad school will depend on your performance as an undergrad here.

If I am in your positon, I would choose Toronto if I want to go to graduate school. If I want to go to work right away, then it would be Waterloo. As you probably noticed, McGill is no where as prominent in the Putnam or the ACM, just show you how much people really know.;)
