Canadians Applying (or already applied if REA) to Stanford

hi I’m only a grade 10 this year, but Stanford is my DREAM DREAM DREAM school. As an international student (Canadian), it’s literally so hard to get in and I’m already nervous. TBH my stats are quite unimpressive right now, but I was wondering how you guys are doing and if the application process was/is a breeze?

Why is Stanford your DREAM DREAM DREAM school?

What is your budget? Have you run the NPC for Stanford and do you know if your parents are able and willing to pay for it?

There are a lot of very good universities in Canada. I do know someone who did their bachelor’s degree in Canada, and their master’s degree at Stanford. He then went on to have a VERY successful career. It is a LOT less expensive to do it that way.

I also did my master’s at Stanford (applying after working in Canada for two years) and it went very well. I did get my bachelor’s in the US, but if I were to do it again, particularly at current prices, I would aim to do a bachelor’s in Canada and a master’s at Stanford (or perhaps McGill, Toronto, UBC, …).

My daughters and I have all applied to universities in both the US and Canada. It is a lot easier to apply to universities in Canada. Filling out one application for a US school however will not be all that bad.

Another issue is that Canadian employers prefer to hire from Canadian universities, and US employers prefer to hire people who have the legal right to work in the US.

Stanford is exceptionally difficult to get into as an international student. When I was there I did attend at least one foreign student event (since I was one), but I never happened to meet any other student from Canada.

There are definitely Canadian students in Stanford. See this: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/hope-blooms-youth-gets-accepted-to-stanford-university-1.4180837
