I had the weekly 10 meal plan over the fall and I thought it was really good but the price, not too much. So before this semester i sat down with my parents and we discussed the options and decided that I should try a semester without a meal plan. It totally slipped my mind that when you sign up for fall you inadvertently sign up for spring too. So I went to the dining office to get it canceled. When I submit a request is it guaranteed that it'll be cancelled or not? Thanks!

Do you live in a dorm that requires you have a meal plan?

In the same position as you, submitted my dining cancel request form last thursday. I put that i couldn’t afford it, which is a reasonable excuse. There should be no reason for them to not cancel it unless you are in a dorm that REQUIRES a meal plan. Everyone has the right to cancel **** if they cannot pay for it.

If i don’t hear from the dining office by Monday I’m takin the office by storm!

I’m sorry all of my anti-aramark propaganda before the school year started went unnoticed. I’ll step it up this year! :D

By the way, this is the company that collected unopened bottles of water at football games in the sweltering 100 degree heat, so they could charge 3 dollars a bottle. Don’t let these dirtbags profit a dime off you if you can help it.

Meal plans are a complete ripoff, whether you consider quality of the food, original price of the meals, or the “discount” for signing up for a plan.

Review the conditions for purchasing a meal plan… it reads like a scam.

These motherfu**rs sent me this email:

Dear Student:
Your request for cancellation has been denied. However, you will be allowed to switch to all flex bucks. Please come into our office and let us know what you would like to do. If you haven’t already paid your meal plan balance, we ask that you do so as soon as possible. If you need to make payment arrangements please come into our office to set that up. If you have any questions please come by our office Monday-Friday
8-4:30PM.

My reason for cancelling was because i CANNOT afford the meal plan. Do they honestly expect to force people to pay for the plans? Is there anyone else i can talk to before i go to the office and tear them a new one??

Here are the terms you agreed to when you signed up for a plan. You had until 1/2/11 to tell them you did not want a spring plan if you signed up for fall. From 1/2-1/14 they will convert your meal plan dollar amount to all Flexbucks.

If you are in a mandatory meal plan dorm, not much you can do. If you are having financial issues, go speak with them in person and plead your case if you are not in a mandatory dorm. TOMORROW is the last day.

I don’t know why anyone would sign up for a meal plan if they were not in a dorm that requires one. The amount you save per meal is pennies, and only if you eat every meal you are entitled to. If you have the unlimited plan and eat 3 unlimited meals a day, you are getting a good deal. That’s the only way it makes sense.

I chose Landis Hall knowing that I would have to have a meal plan, because that was more important to me since I knew I would have to eat somewhere. The food isn’t bad if you don’t eat the same things all the time.

I wish they would let me convert to all flex bucks, at least you could eat at the other restaurants for even more variety. Only non-mandatory meal plans can be converted.

I look at it this way: With Florida Prepaid, Bright Futures and the University Freshman Scholarship, the only expense I have is food and books so it’s a great deal!

As I said, it reads like a scam. Why can’t you just buy it for one semester? I guess they know too many people would cancel after getting sick of their over priced low quality garbage.

You’re right Matt. They make you agree to two semesters because they know people will cancel if they are not in a dorm with a required meal plan. But the question is why can’t FSU work out better meal plans with Aramark? The less expensive plans are the worst value of all, and the per-meal price is even higher than you would pay if you bought each meal individually.

Yeah, they’re pretty horrible. At orientation and when I first got on campus I was surprised at the number of people willingly dishing out their money for it.

God bless you sunny.

Went there today, pleaded my case and…

CANCELLLLLLLLLLED

YEAH!!!

SO glad for you. It always makes sense to go in person and discuss. Many like to use the avoidance method of talking impersonally via email. But a student who is having financial issues who goes and discusses in person, with no name calling etc, usually can make a compelling case.

Good for you. I hope the OP went also.

Students choosing dorms next year should really consider if they want to lock into a dorm that requires a meal plan. My son hates the food and ended up not using about 40 meals off the cheapest plan available. If we had it to do over again, I’d have him take a dorm that didn’t require a plan so he had more options.
