Meal Plan..

Hey peeps,

I vaguely remember signing a contract that we had to sign up for a spring semester meal plan also if we signed up for fall.

BUT if i choose to not sign up because i do not need the meal plan…

What will happen?

Can i cancel by paying any fees? (like breaking an apartment lease)

Can just choose the garnet bucks option?

Any quick responses will be helpful

thanks,
sats

Changes/Cancellation

Meal membership participants may downgrade their membership for any reason prior to September 5, 2008 for Fall and January 16, 2009 for Spring. After these dates, no changes will be accepted. If you choose to downgrade from one membership to another, the difference between the two plans will be prorated and put in a Flex Bucks Account. If you change your mind about participating in a membership, you may convert the prorated balance to a Flex Bucks Account, but only before the grace period deadline for that specific semester.

A refund for Flex Bucks or Garnet Bucks is only granted to those who leave school, graduate or cease to be employed by the University. You may opt for a different meal membership for Spring than you chose in Fall. The same policies for downgrades apply.

Cancellation Policy

All requests for meal membership cancellation as outlined below must be accompanied by documentation from FSU that you have withdrawn from the University. Refunds will be prorated for all meal memberships, including Block Plan Accounts, from the date Seminole Dining Services receives said documentation. All cancellations, regardless of reason, are subject to a $50 cancellation fee (if you submit a medical reason that is approved prior to the start of the meal membership, the cancellation fee will be waived). All cancellations must go to the Seminole Dining Committee for review and decision.

a) If you are officially withdrawn from the University and you notify us prior to the start of the academic semester, you meal membership contract will be cancelled and you are entitled to a full refund

b) If you officially withdraw from the University after the start of the academic semester or inform us of your withdrawal after the academic semester has begun, you are entitled to a prorated refund

c) Students with a mandatory meal membership requirement are not permitted to cancel their membership; however, the student is able to downgrade his/her plan during the grace periods in accordance with the change policy. A Garnet Bucks or Flex Bucks Account does not satisfy the meal membership requirement; therefore, the student cannot transfer the balance to a Garnet Bucks or Flex Bucks Account while under the mandatory meal membership requirement.

Whoa thanks cybermom!

Do you know if we can downgrade from Block membership to Garnet bucks or if we have to stick with a Block membership when we downgrade.

It sounds like you have to contact them by January 16 and if you don't live in a dorm that requires a meal plan you should be able to convert your block membership to FLEX BUCKS not garnet bucks.

I found the information at Welcome to CampusDish at Florida State University!

Well my dorm does NOT require a meal plan so i guess that is good news. Thanks for the info :D

I hope it works out for you with no aggravation. Call them directly on 850-644-3663 to make sure before the deadline of Jan 16.

I downgraded my meal plan a few days ago. They were very helpful and it worked out fine. Good luck!

Just a warning, if you don't pay, you could end up with a hold/stop on your account and you won't be able to register for summer/fall until the bill is settled. It won't just "go away." But if you don't have a mandatory meal plan, just get bucks. You can use them for alot more than just meals. You can buy supplies and food at the store in the union, etc. You can buy soda's, chips, starbucks, etc.

@Yau

Were u in the same situation that i am in now?

Last year, a friend's son also bought gift cards at the book store with flex bucks and then used them to buy books for the next semester.

Not the same. My dorm requires a meal plan so I went from the unlimited meal plan to the 7 meals a week plan and got the price difference back in flex bucks. We also hadn't payed our dining fee yet so we payed that over the phone too.

plk1981 - that is a great tip -- thanks

Except my son had around $10 left over last month and didn't want to take the time to run over to the bookstore before he left campus!! I would have gone if it was a dollar!! LOL
