okay.. so i'm gonna be a freshman this fall @ UCI
but then i got this strange email like a couple of days ago~

From: Admissions Counselor
Subject: Cancellation Review
Message:
Please be advised that your Fall 2006 offer of admission is subject
to withdrawal. The official documents submitted to the Office of
Admissions and Relations with Schools (test scores and/or official
transcripts) have prompted a review of your offer of admission. We
will consider all information and supporting documents you have
provided in making our decision.

The decision regarding your Fall 2006 admission will be posted to the
web and you will receive a message via the Message Center located
at www.admissions.uci.edu, within three weeks of this message advising
you of your status. Please do not call the admissions office to request
information or provide additional information.

and it's strange because i followed everything in their provisional freshman contract.. i didn't receive any D's or F's.. i got above a 3.0 gpa, i sent in my transcript & my SAT & AP scores.. so i have no idea why the heck they would send me this~
could it just be a mistake?
err.. i can't wait 3 weeks for their decision.. it's gonna be killing me~
so what.. if they do withdraw my application i have to go to FJC or OCC??

Schools have a goal for how many people they WANT to have in a certain freshman class. They also have stats that predict how many students who are offered admission will accept. The admissions office is very thorough and accurate with these predictions so there is normally no issue.

In your case, say UCI wanted a class of X students. So, in accordance with their numbers they offered Y admissions. For whatever reason, there could have been an aberration and they got wayyyy to many of the accepted students actually enrolling. So now, they don't have enough room for everyone, and they have to go through some of the admits who barely got in.

That's all I can think of. Hope you still get in.

I mean, that's just...you can't do that, because then the kid can't apply to any other colleges, or accept any other offers - it's too late!

This message makes it sound like they think you lied about your scores or something crazy OR there was a significant dip in your senior yr grades - i.e. you got straight Cs (even if there weren't any D's or F's) where you were an A student before.

It does say not to call...but I don't know if I'd be able to resist...

Call the motherf*****s and ask them what the hell their problem is.

If what you're saying is true (if you followed directions and you obeyed all the rules) then you have every right to call them and demand an answer.

Question: Did you get this through your school e-mail? When did you get this e-mail? If it was during the evening or on the weekend ie. when admissions office is closed, it may be a prank. Second why in the world would a college send an e-mail saying that they're rescinding your admission but "Please don't call the admissions office"? Thirdly, "admissions counselor"? They would give a name if it was official.

All I can be thinking is there is some mistake...either your senior transcripts never arrived or there as a mistake on them. They usually send these letters/e-mails to students who really messed up as a senior and got D's or F's.

Did you get a late acceptance?
If you haven't received a dorm assignment or registration information then most likely you were rejected.
But you have 3 weeks of agony to endure, though I have never heard of that happening.
It does appear odd they haven't given you any recourse information, "Don't call us, We'll call you", is quite strange.

i know!!!1
err... i so want to call them.. badly!!
i think i will.. and it isn't a prank.. cause this one other UCI girl got it~ and i got it through my school email~
and i usually get B's & C's on my report card.. and that's what i got my 2nd semester.. nothing too different there~
& i didn't get late acceptance.. and UCI kids don't get dorm assignments until early september~

isn't it weird that they didn't even give a reason why as to why they mind rescind my application??
sheesh.. talk about torturing a kid~
i should call.. right? even though they say i shouldn't~?

If you do call, i understand if you'd be angry and frustrated, but make sure you talk politely. i've read so many stories on sucky customers sites about students who called and had an attitude and so the person did the bare minimum for them. Whereas people who were polite, they sometimes went above and beyond for. Just a tip, you probably would anyway but it's worth repeating. :) Good luck

Maybe you reported your SAT scores or your grades incorrectly (by accident, you know if you typed them in wrong on the application). After receiving your official transcript, maybe UCI thought you were lying about your grades to get in.

That's the only thing I can think of in your circumstance. I would seriously call...it's not fair for them to do this to you, especially since you are clueless of what could be wrong.

liveforindie- yup i did the same thing @ my guidence counselor but she still didn't help.. she just thought i was angry and told me to calm down (and i didn't think i showed that much anger in my email) grrr they can't get anything done

all right~ thanks you guys
yeah i'm definitely gonna call. & haha i'll be polite.. but a bit aggressive.. so they know i'm being serious about this~
it's not fair for me to go to 3 weeks of torture.. how could they do this so late in the summer~ jeesh
wish me luck :)

You might want to talk with your high school guidance cousnelor and have the counselor call UCI and get to the bottom of this for you. They could possibly have the wrong information attached to the file and she could give them the official correct information before this gets any further out of order.

okay.. i got a response (that was quick)
and it turned out well~
i have no idea what the heck they needed to review again.. but whatever because it turned out for the better

thanks to all you guys for the advice/support/help :)

The Office of Admissions and Relations with Schools has decided to
retain your admission to UC Irvine for Fall 2006. Please continue
