Cancelled Admission

For those who don’t know, DD was accepted to Bama back in the summer. It was always her fall back as she was seeking an appointment to the Naval Academy. She received her appointment and intends to be inducted on July 1st.

This week she got a letter from Bama saying that her acceptance and scholarships were cancelled because they heard from her GC about her intention to enroll at Navy. (I’ll deal with the GC issue later.)

Question: Given that there are many things that can still keep her from Annapolis; injury, accident, second thoughts, should we insist that they reinstate her? Or wait until after I-day and do it then only if necessary?

What had you told Bama? Did you pay them a deposit? Was there some deadline by which she had to let them know if she’d matriculate?

If you paid deposit by May 1 then IN NO WAY should they cancel her based on something they heard from anyone other than you or your daughter.

I would call immediately!

Are you saying that your D may get injured in July and may still end up at Bama? At what point would your D end up at Bama?

Did you pay a deposit at Bama?

Did the GC call Bama or did Bama call the GC? (that sounds odd to me)

Yes she paid the deposit and sent in all the “I accept” paperwork.

I don’t know who called who. I can speculate that our local Bama rep might have asked GC about appearing at our senior awards night to announce DD’s Presidential and Engr scholarships and was told then. But I can’t say for sure.

And yes, m2ck, if she gets hurt between now and July 1, the Navy will not allow her to be inducted. (So far so good… knock wood…every softball game is filled with dred - last one today  )

So it’s not like she’s stringing them along because she can’t make up her mind.

Who should I call?

Make sure you read the fine print on her acceptance letter and any accompanying documents before you call anybody. Make sure there is nothing that clearly gives them the power to rescind in this situation.

Do make sure that she can still be a student. Based on what I’ve seen all schools would prefer to cancel your app if they think you aren’t coming - it makes them appear to be more selective.
