Cancelled my PR class after joining yesterday

So i cancelled my Princeton Review study course today after a lot of people here said that it's a complete waste of time and money :) thanks for the advice guys

but now i need a list of good books for SAT prep. is there a thread somewhere? or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

currently owned:
BB, Maximum SAT, Barron's CR workbook, Sparknote's 1000 Vocab cards

lol! I took PR classes and did not get my minimum "guaranteed 200" point increase so I'm taking a refresher course and my tutor is totally ignoring my e-mails! he probably feels guilty after all that embellished talk he made about my going to do so well...

but great guts canceling the class. unfortunately i can't do what you did because my mom paid ridiculously a lot for the tutoring! i'm gonna use up all i can for the high price we paid.

lol. but i dont hate PR. i just wished they were more realistic with my capabilities and their abilities to teach me.

as of recommended books, I just bought "Gruber's Complete SAT Guide 2009" and the math section (which i am currently on) is awesome! I am currently using it in conjunction with the Collegeboard Blue Book and the Consolidated List of Blue Book Solutions on this forum.
Good luck!

I recommend Grubers for math. Grammatix for CR, and also get Rocket review.

I also heard Barron's 2400 is good.

Using BB, Rocket Review, and Barron's Preparing for the SAT, I got a 2230 in June, the first time I took the SATs.

I just also bought Gruber's [for math] and PR [for vocab] and will be using these to study for October.

All prep courses are just blueprints of the books, you just happen to have a living drone reading the book for you. All SAT review courses give you the same ****, there is no magic. Money is never tantamount to worth. Look at soulja boy, look at william hung, ya get my point? 20 dollar sat book > a century of PR classes.

You made a wise decision.

There was a nice compilation of prep books recently here, but I can't find it. The general consensus on CC goes something like:

CR: Gramatix, Rocket Review, Maximum SAT
Math: Grubers
Writing: Rocket Review, Maximum SAT
SAT Test Prep: Blue Book, QAS, Princeton Review
Vocab: Rocket Review*

** There was another compilation for best vocab lists, but I forgot the name of the book that took first place. RR was up there, though.

blinkangel44... blink 182, angels and airwaves, and plus 44? Awesome lol.

^
the first in vocab was direct hits

How did I only JUST now catch that? Wow, I would have expected myself to see that earlier. But great screenname!

I recommend the 11 Princeton Review book. And DO NOT BUY ROCKET REVIEW.

It does NOT contain much practice. I bought it and I completely regret it. The book contains a bunch of junk, full of "tips." I am not a believer in "tips." It'll cost you a lot in the future, if you just wish to study for some "test-taking strategies." Right now, you need practice, as much practice as possible. Try the Barron's Workbook for Critical Reading, and Princeton Review's Workbook for Reading and Writing.

For vocab, I recommend Princeton Review's Word Smart I and Word Smart II. You'll love those two books. The vocab is just accurate.

I really don't understand why some people like that Rocket Review book. It is just TERRIBLE.

Again, you need practice.

Haha, I took it last summer. I did get my 200 points but still, I need to do better so I am just self-studying this summer.

I wish I cancelled too..

Anyways, I use Collegeboard's and I take test every Saturday (go over answers Sunday) and I just prep on one specific section throughout the weekdays.

See if that helps :)
