Cancelling Housing Contract

I am wondering about cancelling my housing contract. Does anybody know how much I will be charged? On the cancelling page it says $200, but on the contract itself it says "liquidation fees of $500".

It all depends on the date you cancel, I know it is unwise to cancel after May 1st, since then you incur additional charges. I almost canceled my contract back in March, and I know I would have not gotten back my $300 deposit but I wouldn’t be charged any more. If you read it very carefully, it will say it in details.

Does anyone know if UT gives back the $300 deposit?

They do not, unless you cancel before May 1st, and only if you are not attending the university.

One of the people who is currently in “supplemental housing” will be happy to get your dorm room! :)

I don’t understand why their is supplemental housing still because it looks like , to me, that the dorms aren’t filled. I put myself on the housing waitlist and I’ve been switching rooms like crazy so that tells me that rooms are available.

^ I hope that’s the case. I have a supplemental contract and we don’t get to find out anything about where we are staying until the day before our scheduled check-in. I sure hope I can get a real room.

If you don’t have a real room right away, I bet you will have one by the end of the first month of school.

Why do you think that? Do people really get moved out of the supplemental rooms that quickly?

Yes. Some people will not show up to move in, and others will move in a bit and then will move out of their dorm rooms early in the semester because they decide either that UT is not for them or dorm life is not for them.

Once people move out of their rooms, other people in supplemental housing will have the opportunity to move in. Good luck, and please keep us posted - we want to know how it worked out for you plus it will be useful for people reading this next year at this time to hear how it went.

I will definitely post how it all works out.
