UT housing contract

If I sign the housing contract UT sent me, does it mean I will be forced to attend UT, or is it just a place holder of sorts?

Nah, but the $50 fee is non-refundable. Pay it ASAP just in case you do decide to go to UT, because the sooner you pay it the better chance you have with preference of dorms; although it’s been open for a while already.

P.S. I don’t think you would ever be forced to attend UT. Trying of think of something that would, but no…

When did you get a housing contract? I was told they were being sent next week. I also though housing contracts were only offered to people who accepted their admission decision?

1st, you can never be “forced” to do anything. The fees for backing out just get bigger. The nice thing about contracts is that everything you need to know about them is contained inside of the contract. Sometimes it’s good to read them.

2nd, the housing preference is based on the $50 housing fee, not the time you complete the contract. There’s no reason to make that contract until you know you’re going to UT.

Once you receive your housing contract, look closely at the expiration date. My contract’s expiration date is 12/12/11. It says on the Division of Housing website that if I don’t send in the contract by that date, they will rescind my offer. Also, the contract is not fulfilled until the $300 deposit is paid, not just when you return the signed contract.

As to the OP’s question, under “Cancellation by Contract Holder” in the Contract Terms and Conditions, it states that “If you are a first time freshman not attending the University and you inform Admissions and Housing on or before May 1 [2012], you will not be charged liquidated damages. If you cancel after May 1, you will be charged $300 liquidated damages.” In other words, you forfeit your $300 deposit after May 1, and get it back if you let them know before May 1.

Hope this helps. :)

Okay, this post should answer OP’s question

This establishes that the time you submit your contract has no bearing on your housing preferences. So why sign the contract now?

So if you miss this deadline, you’ll just have to go back and reactivate it, meaning you’ll get another contract when the next batch comes out- no big deal. Now you can only push this back so far but by no means do you have to sign it now.

If anyone else reading this doesn’t want to have to go through this, just delay payment of your $200 enrollment fee. When you’re ready to pay for everything, pay the enrollment fee, get your housing contract a week or so later and then pay that by the deadline.

My deadline is also December the 12th. However, I am part of the longhorn scholars or something like that. I got some $300 dollar fee waived because of that, so idk if that’s the housing deposit or enrollment fee (could they be the same?).

This is the only part of the whole process that has me stumped. Also, I did read the contract but I didn’t really felt like it answered my question, that’s why I came to CC to ask. I will look at it once more and also consider everyone’s response and decide what I will do.

i submitted my housing app in mid september and i STILL havent gotten my housing contract. it says that ive paid for everything and that my contract is active. one of my friends applied after i did, and she got her contract a few days ago. does anybody know why i havent gotten mine? wouldn’t i have gotten the contract before my friend considering i applied earlier?? please help!!!

1) Apply
2) Get accepted
3) Pay Enrollment Fee
4) Receive contract

perhaps you have not completed step 2 or 3 while your friend has

i have done #1-3. 100% sure.

Then the next thing to do is call.

thanks for the help

I’ve recently received my housing contract as well. I plan on rooming with my cousin, but he hasn’t received his contract yet. There’s a spot where I put his UT eid, but apparently there’s an error and says I can’t submit my contract until my cousin receives and turns his in. My deadline is also 12/12. Is there a way I can submit my contract and have my cousin still as my roommate?

Apparently I get both the $300 enrollment fee and the $300 Advanced Pay fee waived because my school, and therefore I, is part of the Longhorn Scholars program–or something like that. It’s LOS, but I can’t remember what the O stands for haha.

I faxed them my signed contract and I will see what happens tomorrow or this week. I’ll call and ask if they need to have it mailed of if the fax will do, seeing as they had their fax number there.

I agree with the above poster. You should call and inquire about your contact’s MIA status. You still have 8 days, so you have some sort of leeway. However, don’t procrastinate and call the day before.

Once you’ve both submitted your contract, you’ll be free to add each other as roommates on that page. Don’t fret too much about it though. You can wait until around May to put each other down and it won’t make any difference. They won’t look at what you’ve typed in until then so you can switch everything on that page around or leave it blank for a good while.

Grammar Nazi is not pleased but Grammar Nazi grants you mercy because you type on a phone.

The “is” part?

nevermind, I didn’t realize how Longhorn Scholars applied to entire schools. Was confusing otherwise…

Does anyone here know about housing contracts for transfers?

I’m really confused. I applied and was admitted, have started my housing application and paid the $50 fee, but on the My Status page, it says that I’m not eligible for a housing contract until I pay my enrollment fee. But I thought spring transfers didn’t have to pay that. Can someone help me out here?

I was a little confused myself, but I decided it was correct.

I really don’t know about spring housing. I would love to help on that, but I just have no clue. Try emailing the housing and food services.
