I received my CVW invite through e-mail; the e-mail also said that I will receive a more formal letter in the mail shortly.

CVW date: 26-28 OCT 2006

Anyone else going that weekend?

Hope to see you there.

Are most of the people who received invitations have their applications mostly complete? And do most people have LOA?

YOMAMAISHOT,

My son's application is complete but he does not have a LOA.

Ditto to GA

I signed up for Nov. 16-18 and just wanted to know what's the best way for my dad and I to get tickets for the football game on Saturday.

Also, does anybody know if they arrange for you to be picked up at the airport or do you need to get your own transportation? I guess I'll find out when the information comes in the mail.

curious in ca,

You can purchase tickets online at:

"Are most of the people who received invitations have their applications mostly complete? And do most people have LOA?"

Last year my son had LOA (at time of invitation) and appointment (by the weekend he chose to go to CVW.) By the discussions that took place at the parents brief, I would say that most did not have LOA's.

Last year I got my LOA about 3 days after getting home from my CVW. It was a good time, though I didn't like the mid I stayed with. You should definitely do it, it's nothing like NASS and even not quite like actual academy life (carryon when you get a drag, no chopping, talking in the p-ways). It's also nice to learn where some buildings and stuff are in case you come to the academy.

marma ... do you think timing on your LOA was coincidental or perhaps a function of your visit?

Did that plebe ... or others ... submit input for your application file?

There is not really a clear connection as I see it between the CVW and LOA. Let me remind everyone that only 200 LOA's come out, and there has to be more CVW invitations issued than that.

LOA's don't even need to visit USNA for their appointments. It's just nice to have the opportunity to go. By the time USNA has issued you an LOA, they've already made the decision to accept you pending everything else, and a CVW is NOT one of those.

CVW's come to many applicants because the Admissions people want as many of their possible-acceptanced young people to have had some kind of contact with the place in person. The many studies they have done over the past several decades confirm that a visit is one more way they can be assured an accepted person has better odds to complete their education. (read, the Dept. of the Navy's investment in the person.)

makes sense, doesn't it. thanx.

I had heard the CVW's were directed toward 'challenging' recruits that USNA wanted but might be a flight risk to other schools or toward diverse candidates to hopefully capture their interest.

If you have been to the admissions briefing and 2-3 camps (like my son) and have demonstrated keen interest over a long period (like my son) it seems like a CVW is not on your horizon.

On another note, do you get some time of correspondence if you are deemed qualified after you are reviewed?

whistle pig -- no I think it was coincidental. The LOA was dated the 28th, which was the first day of my CVW.

My dd had LOAs from both USNA and AFA when she got CVW invitations. She went to summer seminar at both. SHe never went to her CVW at AFA, making her final decision for Navy after that visit. And I get to see her tomorrow! It was supposed to be yesterday, but alas, I have a sick 7yo...

jerseynbg: You get a letter stating that you are scholastically qualified to compete for an appointment. It goes on to state that this completes a major step in obtaining an appointment to the US Naval Academy but by no means guarantees admission.

Profmom2: Thanks for the confirmation. Our BGO provided us with the good news via e-mail but I had read that in other threads that some received a letter and although the e-mail was great, I think a letter would make us feel like something was more official. Based on our understanding this takes him from the 10,000 that apply (yes I know that it's not 50,000 - even though I saw the movie) to 2,000 and now we have to hope to be in the 1500 once he passes the nomination hurdle - which is a hurdle as we are in a competitive area with several SA appointees each year.

On a side note: If you are a candidate and are thinking about attending one of the weekends, you can talk to a plebe you know and they can request to be assigned to you...just a thought in response to those who said they didn't like the plebe they were with

I have a question, when do applicants receive their cvw. Junior or Senior yr of high school. Thanks

Senior year for high school applicants.

for the people that have gotten an invite, how long ago did you complete your application? since about the beginning of August I've had everything in except my CFA, (was recovering from ear surgery), but got it in about 2 weeks ago. (although it still says waiting for submission from...) and have yet to recieve and invite. i really want to go too!
