Candidate's Choice Application...anyone else got that?

Hi, it seems I have been invited by email for the Candidate Choice Application which as RPI describes it:

[quote]
This special advanced invitation to apply is based on your high school achievements and previous interest in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the nation's oldest technological university.

Apply now to enjoy ...

* A head start on the application process
* A streamlined design
* Earlier notification of your scholarships and financial aid award with your admission decision

Has anyone else gotten this in prior years? It looks really really simple, is it a complete application or just a supplement?
It looks like the real application because it also says at the end of the app

[quote]

Your application is not considered complete until we have your completed application, School Report (including official high school transcript, SAT or ACT scores, and first marking period grades), and Academic Recommendation. We must also receive your $70 application fee or fee waiver request.

The deadline to submit these materials is November 1, 2010, for Early Decision I and Law/Medical candidates; December 15, 2010, for Early Decision II; and January 15, 2011, for Regular Decision.

The Admissions Office reserves the right to request additional information to review your application.

Rensselaer admits qualified students without regard to age, race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national or ethnic origin, veteran status, marital status, or disability.

This seems pretty simple, so has anyone else done this?

Yep; it was really convenient and straightforward. Streamlined apps are so nice.

My son applied using the Candidate Choice Application and now will be attending this fall. He never would have applied to RPI had he not received this easy application.

Do you guys think RPI is more favorable towards the recipients and users of this ‘invite only’ application even if I would choose Regular Decision?

It isn’t invite only, you can find it on the website

I applied last Fall using the Candidates choice application. I consider myself under-qualified for the school and I was accepted with a great financial aid package.

They lied in the email :(

Well, this might be the first time that Joshua has been incorrect.

I do not think they offer the Candidates Choice on the website any longer.

Oh woops, my mistake. I think the regular commonapp thing is easier anyway, you’re using it for all your other colleges so why not just tag RPI on. We’ve always been told that you don’t have a greater chance of being admitted through the candidates choice application-- all application routes are equal.

I got invited for the Candidate’s Choice Application for Fall 2011.

so i clicked on the link in the email just to see wht this is about and it pulled up the application. do u have to fill it out the day u open it? cuz im not ready to fill it out i was just curious to see what it was about…

not unless it changed within the last couple of years

My son also received this, he clicked on it to see what it looked like, and afterward they sent him a username and password to return to the application. So, goldandblue92, you will be fine. It looks like they want a personal statement and a “Why Rensselear?” statement, which he hasn’t written yet. He won’t have a chance to visit before applying, and hopes they won’t look on that as a negative.

I received this e-mail as well, yet I have no intention of applying.

anyone turned it in yet?

D finished the Candidate’s Choice app today and sent it on its way…regular decision though

If we turn in the candidate’s choice, do we get notified sooner? Or is there no difference?
