I got accepted by Pomfret, and got off the wait list at Millbrook. Both were my top choices. I have visited neither, so I don't have a feel of the campuses. Both admission offices granted me extra time to make a decision, so I still have roughly around a week.

Pomfret:
Academically better and has better college acceptances than Millbrook (not sure), but doesn't have most of the extracurriculars I participate in.

Millbrook:
I'm big on extracurriculars, and they have all the ones I love (Model UN, etc.), they're also big on community service, and taking care of the environment. Also, as an alternative to Gym, I believe you can look after the animals in their zoo instead. A lot of music and art alumni.

About me:
Attending as a sophomore (female)
Asian. SSAT: 56%, TOEFL not needed. Full pay.
I am in varsity soccer in my school, but I attend a small school - making it a LOT easier to get in the team.
I'm big on community service and Model UN.
I love music, technology and history courses. I'm not a fan of science and math courses.

Any thoughts on these two school?
Thanks in advance :)

It depends on what really matters to you. If you want the better education and college placement, go to Pomfret. If you want more extracurriculars sacrificing a slightly better education, pick Millbrook. From this post it seems that you are leaning towards Millbrook, but if you choose Pomfret, you an start Model UN, which in return will strengthen your college application. It’s a tough choice but good luck and you will be successful wherever you go!

If you do well at either school, your chances of admission by a top college will be the same. This decision seems to boil down to non-academic factors. Which of the two places seems more like a good home for you?

When in doubt, pick the school with a zoo, right? ;-P

The animals say pick me!!! :(|) :(|) :(|)
Millbrook is something really, really special. ALL other schools are just schools.

Can the admission office at both schools put you in touch w students to talk to?

I’m a fan of Millbrook, too.

Congrats on getting off a Waitlist so early. I have never visited Millbrook. But we love Pomfret’s family style atmosphere. Professors are accessible and campus is safe. From the looks of it - Millbrook looks secluded as well.
Have you asked Pomfret if there is an updated extra curricular list? Also, you can start a club. Look at transportation to and from airports? What is the travel time etc?

In the end- go with your gut. You can’t go wrong. I read a Stat once that, 95% of boarders don’t regret where they ended up.
I think u fall in love with your school because it is YOUR school.
Good luck with your choice
And don’t agonize for a week-

Everyone knows I’m a huge fan of Pomfret but when I read your post your feelings for Millbrook came through loud and clear. Let’s face it- the zoo thing is very cool! I’ll also second GMT’s suggestion- It might be very helpful to speak to students from both schools while you’ve been afforded extra time to decide. All the best and good luck!

We visited Millbrook and really liked it. The staff members and students were all very nice. The zoo is pretty great. They do have a great arts prgm and the DOA was one of my favorite ppl to sit down and talk with throughout this entire process. Congrats on both schools!

Copy and pasted.

Here’s some advice. If you really can’t decide after going through everything on your mind that might even slightly matter to you, then there’s nothing to decide. If they’re both THAT equal, you’re better served by flipping a coin ( ) and not stressing yourself any longer. The key to this working, though, is you can’t second guess yourself.

That means no thinking about whether it was the right choice, or whether you made a mistake, what if I’ll hate it, so on.

It’s like a dilemma I had one time when choosing headphones. I could have gone with the beats, but I ended up going for the Bose instead. I was all like, " oh no, what if the beats are better?" Don’t do it. You’ll drive yourself crazy. Best thing to do is get a bowl of ice cream and some homemade cookies and treat yourself, and forget about that other school you decided against going.

Sorry for the long post but I thought it was necessary, and I can copy and paste to other vs. threads.

Good luck on your decision, you can’t really go wrong either way.

@biancastarflare My daughter just committed to Pomfret as a 9th grade boarder

Congrats! I think you should pick the school with the ECs you love - not only will you quickly find like-minded friends, you will have a better chance to develop those interests which may pay off later on when those same ECs will be a plus at the colleges where you apply that may have related majors that interest you. Since the academics are more or less equal, and you will be taking set classes at both ( math, english, a science, etc), the ECs might be the deciding factor -unless Pomfret has new ECs to try that you are sure you will love.
