Can't Fold Forms... What?

On the page where you print out the labels for the recs, it states that you cannot fold the forms... Do I have to give my teachers 9x12 envelopes for each recommendation? Or can I just make them put the recs in a regular letter envelope and put those in a 9x12?

I think they want you to give the teachers 9x12 envelopes (stamped and labeled), and the teachers should mail them directly to Stanford. They ask not to fold the forms because it makes filing easier for them.

My son gave his teachers 9 x 12 envelopes.

I gave my teachers 9x12s last week, and will give my counselor a 9x12 this week.

Yes, for Stanford you need 9x12 envelopes.

Oh crap, I gave my teachers the regular, smaller envelopes. What should I do?

Ask if they've sent them yet. If they haven't, give them 9x12s, explain the situation, apologize profusely.

If they have, keep in mind that many, many applicants will not see the instruction to include mailing labels/plus 9x12s. While this may indicate to Stanford that the applicant hasn't browsed their website with a fine-tooth comb, it vary likely will not be used to discriminate between candidates.

I, myself, accidentally stumbled across them the very night that I was preparing teacher rec forms, luckily, and Stanford is my top choice by far. Stanford will need to give consideration to all applicants.

Also, on the mailing label sheet it says:

"While you will not be penalized in the admission process for not using them, using these labels will help ensure accurate and timely sorting and processing of your documents."

I would assume the same goes for 9x12s. Ask your teachers if they've sent them, and if they haven't, swell. If they have, have faith in the notion that your acceptance or lack thereof is not correlated to your usage of mailing labels/9x12s.

Stanford is quite touchy about the envelopes and mailing labels. make sure
you follow the instructions carefully.

Can't we send everything in online?

Just wondering...

Did people that use 9x12s use them for every school they're applying to or only Stanford?

I didn't for any of my other schools for teacher recs, and probably won't for any of the others. If they cared, they'd have specified.

Only Stanford had the 9X12 requirement amongst the 6 schools I applied to
last year.

Why not use the common application for these documents and save the postage and paper? That is what the schools actually prefer. That will make it easier to just delete your file with a keyboard stroke after your rejection but if you send in the paper they will have to scan it first and then go back and put all of the paper in the dumpster and take up landfill space. The paper makes additional work at Stanford. Think green and save trees.

The Op is talking about the recommendations and materials that he/she is
not able to submit online. Poster #13, Try to loose the negativity dude
and spread some cheer. For most HS seniors this is a stressful time- don't
have to add to their stress levels with random prophecies.

so how exactly do you send in recs. via post mail? Does the teacher only need to write a regular recommendation, or should the teacher complete any forms from the commonapp.?

i know the teacher gets an email instructing them how to fill out the rec. on the commonapp., but just not too sure about the postal stuff

thanks :)

you should give the teacher a form (with your info filled in), and an addressed stamped 9x12 envelope (use Stanford's labels for the envelopes).
The teacher will know what to do with them.

I called the Undergrad Office today, and they said you could send in Teacher Recs via Internet and the Counselor Recs via Mail(can't send transcripts online) for anyone who wants to make life a little easier for themselves.

This is what I did:

1.) Made a commonapp account.
2.) Signed in to said commonapp account.
3.) Went to "School Forms"
4.) Clicked on Teacher Rec, or some such.
5.) Printed it out; signed waver agreeing to not see my rec.
6.) Handed them the teacher rec form, along with a resume, an addressed (mailing labels) 9x12, with postage attached, and a smile. :)

yay ^_^ thanks!
I dont think i'll be applying SCEA though :( RD is def. for me! I need to perfect my application & woo some senior teachers..

Am I the only one that doesn't see "Teacher Rec" when I click on School Forms?
