Mailing Labels? What??

I just found out this week that Stanford wants a special mailing label on all rec forms. However, I gave my teachers and counselor the forms and envelops two months ago. I knew nothing about special labels. Now I am on winter break and there is no way to get my teachers these special labels. They have very likely already mailed the recs. Do many people apply without these special mailing labels? Will not having them on my recs hurt me as an applicant?

Don't know, but it could mean you did not read and follow instructions from their website

We ask that you submi t these forms in 9x12 envelopes. Please do not fold the documents.
Please do not staple the pages together.

they do specifically want those labels, but i doubt they'll just toss ur app out

staple the pages together? i didnt see that one! i kinda stapled each form seperately... Didnt put them all in one bunch though.. so can i just take the staples off and send it?

All of these policies are just designed to make things easier. At my high school, they provide the envelopes and mailing labels for teachers (in other words, I couldn't use Stanford's). It worked out fine. All the mailing labels do is to help sort things in their offices.

Oh my gosh! I did the same thing. I didn't realize they had a specific way of mailing the papers, so my letters of recommendation will be folded and not have mailing labels. Will they get really annoyed and will this hurt my chances? Stupid stupid mistake. I just didn't read closely enough and assumed. Urg!

Let's all take a collective breath...

Ok. No one's chances are going to be hurt - admissions officers are not opening envelopes, they are reading copies handed to them from other office personnel. I got in, and I specifically did NOT follow the instructions, for the simple reason that they are ridiculous. Telling applicants what envelope and label to use and the whole stapling policy is just elitist and dumb. It's like asking people to turn off their cell phones on an airplane. If the plane really depended on people turning them off, we would all be dead. Same with admissions. Don't panic, everyone will be fine, and your chances will not be affected.

You guys are panicking too much. They mostly want it so that it'll be easier for them to process everything. The people who open the envelops and scan everything into the computer (or whatever they do) are not the admissions officers. Therefore, your decision is most likely not affected by this.

This was what they wanted:

Applying to Stanford: Downloadable Application Forms

You should be fine.

You should let Stanford know that since you are a student there. Stanford also does not want a resume but the Common Application Interface is so poorly designed that it's hard to group one's activities. Out of curiosity, did anybody get accepted with a resume or an activities lists in the additional information?

my school's sending the evaluation forms and the secondary school report together, so does that mean i give them all three to put on the same envelope?????????? weird!

At my school, you just give them a list of schools you're applying to and the teachers names you want your recs from and they send it all out, with a resume, regardless of the school. Is that bad?

I got in, and I did NOT send in my activity list because they specifically ask not to. If everyone that applied to stanford sent in their fat resume then they would never get through it. Focus on one and write about in in the EC section.

^Did you expand your activities in the additional information. I'm not talking about resume. They specifically said no resume. Just expanding the activities section.

i got in, and expanded my activities in the additional information. 7 slots really isn't enough...

Nope, I just went with my most important extracurriculars in the space given. I wrote about the one the interested me the most in EC section and expanded on it in one of my essays.

99cents, if any ECs get you in they will be the ones in your 1,2,3 slot. So i wouldn't worry that much about listing ALL of your ECs even if you have leadership positions in all of them.

About the mailing labels, do I have to stick all the three labels, for the two teacher evaluations and the secondary school report on the envelope if my school's sending all of it together?

I did NOT use their labels.

Oh wells.......................

I would use the counselor label to send everything in, since it's most likely the counselor will be doing the sending.

I freaked out too at first, but then I started laughing imagining myself in five years, laughing at this
