Anyways, if anyone had a favorite class (or professor) or two (or six :) ) at UVA, I'd love to hear them. I'm hoping to double major in Financial Mathematics along with either McIntire or Economics (with a financial concentration). I'm praying to be an Echols scholar at the moment and if I somehow do get it, I'm going to need a lot of interesting class suggestions to fill my schedule.

Once you’re officially admitted to UVA and have an email account, you’ll be able to register for the UVA CourseForum. As I understand it, you’ll be able to see grade books for some courses, grade distributions (i.e. percentage receiving an A and so forth) and read reviews of the professors and tips for succeeding in the course. It’s a nice resource.

Even as an Echols Scholar, you are still required to fulfill the McIntire prerequisites if you decide to go that route. I only mention this because you may not have as much space in your schedule to fill with interesting electives (unless you place out of the McIntire prerequisites through AP credit, testing, etc).

Don’t let this deter you from Echols or McIntire…both are awesome programs…

I think you are being proactive which is good, however you are putting the cart before the horse. I don’t mean about your acceptance. First, look up area requirements in case you are not Echols and see what you may need to take. Also, go to the Econ and Math departments websites and see what you need to take to satisfy those majors. I realize you already did that for Comm so no need to mention that one. Next, go to other departments and peruse their courses and see what interests you. Taking advice from other students for courses is a great idea, but see what you like too. All departments have amazing courses. S1 was not Echols but also had only two area requirements to fulfill. He has taken all different courses that he enjoys along with his Comm requirements. For now you can use Rate My Professor for seeing how classes are until you can register with the Course Forum.

Already planned out all three majors - as you can tell I’m wayyyy too excited and setting myself up for disappointment. At the same time, however, I feel like its good to get a head start on things or at least that’s what I tell myself while I’m doing this research.

I know I looked up what I’ll need if I’m not an Echols but I forgot to write it down. I’m pretty sure its 9 credits worth plus foreign language which I took four years of in HS but I’m sure I’m rusty.

The math/econ double major would be about 22 classes.

Honestly, I was just looking for some suggestions of great classes people took, or maybe more importantly, memorable professors just in case I need some classes to fill a schedule here or there. This - “HIST361, history of espionage and intelligence in the 20th century, is an excellent class. It’s team taught by two professors: Timothy Naftali, who served on the 9/11 commission, and Gerald Haines, the former chief historian of the CIA” - caught my attention from the other thread but I could not find it on the UVA record.

I know its more likely that I’m not an Echols but other posters got me excited with their (probably false) rumors.
