Can't seem to slow down

Anybody else's kids seem to have trouble slowing down once the college rat race is over? Seriously, my d'11 finishes her first full year of college in May. She has 2 jobs lined up for summer and told me this morning she plans to take 3 classes and a lab this summer because she can. She does have to take one class and lab to get back into sequence from changing majors.

I wonder if this is a monster created out of the push to "do more so you can get into a better college and get more merit aid . . . "? And then, I wonder if this is something I should try to put a stop to? And if so, how?

Probably nobody here has lazy kids, and a few of you might even have similar questions about your own offspring. Thoughts?

My two little darlings have no problem whatsoever slowing down once summertime is here. I think I’d like to have your “problem” for awhile…

Never had that problem. Down time seems to be built into the DNA of our family.

my D is very similar, she is finishing her junior year, has not had less than 23 credit hours per semestre since starting plus all of her music studios, and she is an RA. she has maintained between a 3.98 and 4 GPA every semestre. Each break, winter and summer she has taken an online course, worked a job at 35 hours a week and maintained a relationship with her boyfriend for 4 years. This summer she wants to work 2 jobs if possible and take an online course because she wants to save extra cash towards her Masters. She started out with a double major in music performance and education but decided last fall to drop the education and instead she added a music business major. The only good thing is that she always been driven like this but manages to maintain her cool, makes social time and enjoys what she is doing. I wish I had half of her energy and stamina.

I have one lazy one and one like the OP’s daughter. My lazy one doesn’t need it to be summer before he schedules down time. The motivated ones are a lot easier.
