Im taking the SAT the final time this oct.
I've not read a lot of literature, so im not good at quoting from books
But amidst all the confusion, chaos, and panic in 25 minutes, i can't think of any examples to support my essay (opinion).
In my last sat i couldn't think of anything either, i just wrote 3 personal anecdotes as examples, that 2 i made up. I ended up with a 8.
does anyone have any bright ideas or suggestions?

Personal anecdotes are fine. As long as your reasoning fits, you can get a very good score. If thinking of examples from history/literature stresses you out, don’t spend time trying to think of any. You don’t want to be feeling stressed while you write.

BUT… since you asked for some other ideas:
What is your favorite subject?
If it science, use examples from science and scientists. I’ve found mentioning Watson and Crick can work in almost any essay
If you love history, use examples from history. I’ve written some of my most successful SAT, ACT, and AP essays talking about Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, Hamilton and Madison. There are many examples that fit many prompts. I wrote one example about Japanese Internment during WW2… in others I’ve cited the Russian Revolution. If you know your history, it is quite easy to quickly think of an example that fits pretty much any topic.
You said you aren’t into literature, but you don’t need to have read really difficult books. You could honestly cite a Dr. Seuss book or mention an article or short story you recently read. You can also cite TV shows or movies.
I’m sure (though I can’t think of any at the moment) you could even find evidence from math if math is a subject you are really passionate about.

Personal anecdotes are FINE! I have made up MANY in SAT/ACT/AP essays and done fairly well. I just thought I’d throw some other ideas out there to show you that it isn’t always all that difficult to think something up. Lots of people suggest going in with preplanned examples, but that doesn’t work for me. I say go in there with an open mind and see what jumps into your mind, whether it be an ex. from you life, history, literature, TV, movies, or even made up.

Good luck! I hope I was able to help you out at least a little bit! I’m sure you will be fine. An 8 isn’t bad by the way… but I definitely believe you can pull that up. Don’t try to write using a formula. Just write well and use examples.

are u sure i can get a 11- 12 with just personal examples or cliche/too general examples (harry potter) if i use them well?
