Can't wait til December 20th!

I just wanted to say that I'm really excited for December 20th and a decision from Notre Dame! We all worked really hard! Good job!

Only 15 days left! Getting excited!

Are we supposed to receive the decision by December 20th, or have it postmarked by then? Also, are we 100% sure of December 20th? I haven’t seen specific dates anywhere…

Yeah I received a confirmation email when I applied REA saying that we will receive admission decision by the 20th so it is mailed before

You’re right - I just went back and checked and it says December 20th. Though a word of warning: it says “should” not “will” receive a decision by the 20th. I wouldn’t be surprised if some people receive decisions the week after.

I also think that they should mail decisions by Wednesday the 17th then, or around that.

So mailed before the 20th and received by Christmas?

I may be mistaken but I did an official tour at Notre Dame about 2 weeks ago and I’m almost 100% sure that they said that EA letters will be mailed on December 10th this year. This may have changed since then but they sounded pretty confident! It kind of makes sense, because now that they switched to restrictive early action they will have less apps to look over.

December 10th! I hope so! This is good news! Do you really think there are less applications to review?

If it’s actually December 10th, that would be amazing.

Not going to hold my breath, though :/

Yeah, we’ll know by Wednesday if that’s true, because I heard that they send out a tweet the day that they mail the letters.

Hey @silverdrop‌ and @flo515994‌ , do you think since Notre Dame switched to REA. There are less applications to review? I thought since the REA doesn’t restrict other EA schools and only ED schools that it would be about the same.

I never actually heard anything about that but after they said that letters would be mailed a bit earlier this year I assumed that was the reason… I’m really not sure though

@stahboy‌ It very well could be. It will be interesting to see once they release admissions statistics. A lot of top students probably had to pick between ED/SCEA or ND, I would imagine. Most, if not all, of the USNWR top 20 schools are either ED or SCEA, with the exception of UC Berkeley I believe.

@silverdrop and @flo515994‌

Oh I see now… I think both of you are right! Since ND made it REA, there must be less applicants then before. The only thing I’m not sure about is that some schools restrict ED applicants from applying to EA, so it would be like before except that now with REA, ND applicants can’t apply to ED schools. :)

So we have 3-13 days until the letters are mailed out! That’s a pretty wide range! :)

It’s very exciting!!! Good luck to you guys :))

I wish the luck of the Irish on all of you - let’s hope ND spent their luck quota on us this year, since they were apparently stingy with the football team :)

and wow, a Dec. 10 mail date would mean a pretty considerable drop in applications!

Good luck to everyone who applied! I am applying Regular Decision due to a low ACT (28). I am re-taking the ACT this week and have studied my butt off.

I remember last year’s EA thread was a roller coaster of emotions with everyone waiting for the mail to arrive on the various coasts well into December. Since the decisions mailed so late (I think it was around the 18th ?), a few of the letters got caught up in the holiday mail and there was no one to contact in the Admissions office because it was closed for the Christmas break.

When the Admissions Director (Mr. Mundy) visited my student’s school on the west coast this fall, he said they knew the new restricted early action policy would impact the quantity of early applicants…he just wasn’t sure by how much. He also noted ND’s new policy of pre-admitting applicants to the undergraduate business school as another variable that could affect the timing of when things wrapped up.

Likely, it’s been an interesting (or just different) season for them. Let’s cross our fingers that their workload was more manageable this cycle and they can get answers out as quickly as possible. Good luck to all waiting on REA and to the many applying RD (and to SoliDeoGloria on your ACT, sounds like you’ve worked hard and you’re ready-- go get ‘em!)

There may be more deferrals/rejections because of the REA policy, especially if they expect a stronger RD pool with all the Ivy rejects applying. However the REA probably shows more interest than regular EA so more could be accepted, I guess.
