can't wait until we receive our packets!!

Well, you can create a folder and name it sent-mail or something. :)

I use Eudora, which probably shows my age -- it's no longer supported by IS&T, and probably is no longer available for download. For quick, no-frills email-checking, I'll often log into Pine (type pine at the Athena prompt, which can be accessed [url=<a href="http://athena.dialup.mit.edu/ssh.html%5Dhere%5B/url">http://athena.dialup.mit.edu/ssh.html]here[/url</a>] or by downloading a client like SecureCRT from the software page). There aren't too many great options anymore for people who use Windows. I wish MIT would support Thunderbird -- even that lame-o school up the river does!

I've found that the answer is to forward your email to Gmail. Threads are a life saver.

thanks Mollie!

MIT does support thunderbird. I use thunderbird.

If you insist on using webmail you could try the following: create a folder called sent-mail. Create a filter for all emails FROM yourself and send those to the folder. And BCC yourself on every email you send out. There are probably better ways but honestly webmail blows

Instead of dealing with Webmail filters (which are unreliable, slow, and have caused major problems in the past), you can do the following to save all your sent mail:

Create a sent mail folder:
1. In Webmail, click on the Folders icon.
2. Check the box next to Inbox.
3. From the "Choose Action" drop down menu, choose "Create Folder"
4. Name your folder something like "Sent Mail".

Now set up Webmail to save sent messages:
1. In Webmail, click the Options icon.
2. Click on Personal Information in the Your Information category.
3. Choose the Default Identity and click on Edit your identities.
4. Make sure Default Identity is selected in the Your identities field.
5. At the bottom there is an option for Save sent mail. Check this option, and select the sent mail folder you created up above.
6. Click on the Change button at the bottom.

(from <a href="http://itinfo.mit.edu/answer.php?id=6837%5B/url%5D">http://itinfo.mit.edu/answer.php?id=6837</a>)</p>

(Webmail preferences are currently not being saved. If you do this now, the next time you log in your folder will still be there but your preference to have Webmail automatically save your sent messages will be gone. Wait until the notice at the bottom of webmail.mit.edu shows that preferences have been restored, then set this up.)

However, Webmail was not designed to be your main method for accessing email. I highly recommend setting up an email client, whether it be Outlook/Express, Thunderbird, or Apple Mail.

Thunderbird is technically not supported because of some incompatibility issues with the MIT mail servers, but it does work and it is currently going through the process of being officially supported by IS&T.

Cool! Thanks!
