My daughter is attending CAP 21 this summer, the 6 week non-NYU one…we live in NYC…could be fun for the kids to get to know each other before hand, via FB maybe…
she is also really looking forward to the summer…

My daughter will be attending this CAP 21 this summer, she is now a Sophmore will be a jr next school year. We are starting to look at MT college programs and conservatories as well, what ones were your favorite …how were the auditions? We are so very new to this and thanks!

Does any one know anything about the waitlist? I am fist on it and trying to see if there is any way of getting off/when i would find out. I was also accepted to BTP and need to give them an answer soon…any advice?

Megan, call CAP21 and tell them what you told us. Ask them when you should know by (I would think after the date that deposits are due) and mention you were accepted elsewhere and the deadline to deposit for that program is X date and see what they can share with you about the situation.

Megan,

I have been trying to add this to my post #44, but I cannot get CC to load for some reason and so when I do, I will post this as a new post…

I just looked at CAP21’s site and I don’t know how recently it was updated, but it states “spots still available!”…I would mention that too when you call.

One more thing…I notice…the last audition date officially was March 25 and deposits are due two weeks after acceptance. Not sure when those kids were notified but likely in April and so I would think deposits are due by now. So, CAP21 should have a handle on enrollment. Go into the call well informed.

(finally got this to post and then it did so in duplicate, as well as my original attempt to add to post 44!)

Thanks so much Soozie for the advice. I have been in contact with them for about a month now and every response I get is “we should be able to let you know by the end of the week” or “I will let you know soon”. The BTP deposit date passed but they will still accept one from me. Im thinking it should be safe to give it to the end of the week before telling them I cant keep waiting? I just want to attend the CAP program more than BTP, but maybe its not mean to be.

In the next call, point out that you prefer to attend CAP, but your deposit is due at another program. Say that you do not understand the wait list when their site says spots are still available and also that deposits should have been due by now from the last audition date. So, the timing is a bit different now then the last time you called. Bring these things up and see what they say. You may wish to have a parent call on this matter.

Also, mention that on such and such date, they told you that they would let you know by the end of the week and since you did not hear back, you are checking in again.

Megan,
Are you speaking with Ashley? She is the CAP 21 coordinator. She is a lovely gal and very helpful. If you are not speaking with her, make sure you ask for her.

When my S auditioned two weeks ago, there were a couple others there auditioning. I was surprised that they were still auditioning kids since the deadline had come and gone. To me, it seems that even though they may have vacancies, they seem to still be pretty selective on acceptances. I hope that you come off the waitlist soon- my S is really excited to attend this summer. Ashley usually responds to emails in a very timely manner. Best Wishes!

Yes, I have been speaking with Ashley via Email. I am first on the waitlist. I don’t mind at all i’ve just been left in limbo a bit regarding whether or not they have space or if they are being selective etc. It would just be nice to be clear on where I stand. Thanks so much for all the help from everyone! Im sure I will have a productive summer no matter where I end up…just trying to figure it all out :)

Not sure how to edit posts…but…I was accepted due to a cancellation!! Thanks so much for all of the advie!

Congratulations! How exciting! Make sure you go to the FB page referenced here already.

Megan…yay!!! Very happy for you! It all worked out. And I truly believe you will have an awesome experience this summer and learn a lot and meet lots of other kids who share your passion.

If anyone looks here that is attending Cap and is not already on the FB page, I am looking for a roommate for NYU housing :)

Has anyone heard from their CAP21 Summer program kids? I talked to DS last night and so far, so good. He did say that they had a very intense several hours of dance placement (ballet and jazz), and then the vocal placement audition yesterday. He and several others managed to get student tickets to see Next to Normal (front row seats for $25) and some were able to go to another show (which I am spacing on right now.) DS claimed that Alice Ripley was spitting on him, he was so close to the stage. :)

Today was first day of actual program so anxious to hear about that. New School dorms are great, clean, and in a fun part of town with easy access to many things. Post here if you hear any updates from your kids! I wish I could have 5 weeks in NYC!!! :)
