Hi, back in March, I was denied admission to UT Austin, but was offered CAP. I was already accepted to UT Arlington prior, for nursing, and I’m practically kicking myself for not getting into UT.
Real question is, would it be better for me to get to UT through CAP, or try to transfer without it? From what I can tell, I would only be accepted to the liberal arts and undergraduate college at UT, and I would still have to apply to the nursing school. Also, I would not be able to accept any general scholarship money from from UTA, and I’d be paying the school full price. So in the end, I wondered if it were better to not do CAP and try to transfer without it, but I feel I could also be making a big mistake.
Pick the cheapest route for you. It’s not that hard transferring to UT honestly. I got into Liberal Arts Undeclared with a 3.5 GPA, transferred from Houston Community College, a friend of mine transferred from Texas Tech to Communication: Speech Language Pathology with a 3.1. If you are awarded money from UTA then go for it.
If you research your teachers, do your homework, and study hard, to me it shouldn’t matter if you took CAP or not. It’s not that hard to transfer into Liberal Arts (COLA) at UT. For me I didn’t take CAP because Arlington was offering me $8000 in scholarship and I couldn’t take it if I was doing CAP.

If you scroll down to the recommended courses for nursing, you’ll see that there aren’t very many courses you’ll need to apply. Therefore, I would recommend going to UTA as a nursing student (or whichever Texas college you plan to attend) and apply as a regular transfer student. This way, you’ll already be exposed to nursing once you enter college while still focusing to attend UT as your goal. Here’s another helpful link:
