hi! im a senior in high school wanting to go to UT- austin
but im afraid i might not make it in since im not top 8%..im 11%

i heard about the CAP program but im confusing on how you get accepted or how you apply.

if im accepted into the CAP program i either want t go to UTD, UTSA, or UTA
but i dont meet the minimum requirements to get into UTD but at the same time i have automatic admission to general admission since im in the top 15%...so what should i do?

are UTD, UTA, UTSA good schools? im thinking about majoring in biology
i know utd isnt a real campus... are utsa and uta the same?

When (if) you’re denied from UT, you then will get the option to choose which school you would like to attend and then they transfer over the paperwork and everything. UTSA is a real campus, but like most UT system schools with the exception of Austin, it is made up of a good amount of commuter students. UTD academically will be stronger than the other CAP schools.

If you are in the top quarter and have decent test scores, you’ll be offered all the CAP schools. If you aren’t in the top quarter, you will be offered admission to fewer CAP schools.

At most schools, CAP students may apply for scholarships if they also apply directly to the schools in addition to accepting the CAP contract. Several of the CAP schools have early scholarship deadlines (Jan and Feb), so apply early! Be sure to send the FAFSA to all schools you might attend early -by March.

In the past, all graduates of Texas high schools who completed the courses that would have been needed to be accepted to Texas public schools are offered CAP.

I did cap last year. In your letter from UT if they don’t accept you and decide to offer you cap they will say they are giving you the option. Then you’ll go online and accept the offer and at that time you’ll choose a school. I went to UTA and it was pretty awful. It is absolutely a commuter school. You also mentioned UTD so you may be from the area, and if that is the case you might want to go to UTA, because you would have friends in the area or could go home. There is not much for student life on weekends there though. However, it is pretty easy academically. You need certain courses and a 3.2 GPA for cap, so it makes sense to go to the easiest campus you can. Your GPA will start over at UT Austin anyways.
