CAPPED Admission

My daughter got CAPPED for UT Austin yesterday, and had applied to McComb’s, wanted to know if she should take this up and eventually get a degree from UT Austin majoring in Computer Science and Economics? She has been admitted to May’s school of business at A&M. Any advice would be very much appreciated. TIA!

I don’t think comp sci is possible with CAP. Econ is, and depending on her goals, may be a fine choice.

Can you pls elaborate more about her goals? She wanted to major in business, but doesn’t know what in business.

Click through all the links on the CAP agreement. It will take you to the UT page where it discusses transfers. From there you can just continue to click on links and read lots of info. She would need to transfer to her major and compete with other external transfers or wait and transfer internally. It’s very competitive for lots of majors and more details are listed on the website. My son transferred into Economics with a 3.87. But that is an easier transfer than Computer Science.

That’s what I have found out about reading through the CAP agreement. Thanks!

CAP doesn’t guarantee you a major in Computer Science. I don’t think economics is guaranteed either. I think you have to apply externally for these majors.

It is not unusual for a 4.0 GPA college transfer to be denied from UTCS and even economics. If your daughters goal is to be a Longhorn no matter what major then strongly consider CAP. But it’s not a good fit for majors that aren’t guarantee via liberal arts. Economics is not one of them. Given we are in a pandemic and admission is as competitive as its ever been… I hope your daughter focuses on her full admission offers. Good luck!

CAp’d students typically end up in Liberal Arts. If your daughter sees a major she likes in that college, then, great!
If not, Mays is a great choice (make sure she’s admitted to the major and the college, NOT “admitted to premajor, but dependent on meeting entrance to major requirements and/or on spaces available”! Several business schools are tricky like this, where you’re no “in” till junior year.)
That being said, environment and fit at UT and TAMU are REALLY different in every way. Would your daughter be equally happy at both? Does she have other choices? (UHouston or UT Dallas would be good choices for CS&business or CS&economics.)

How is Economics not guaranteed via Cap? Where does it say this?

Because econ is a very popular alternative to McCombs.
