I got capped because my sixth semester rank wasn't high enough. My seventh semester rank, however, is now top 8. I want to reapply in the spring, but I really don't want/need a 7 month break. Apparently, in order to qualify as a freshmen, you must not have enrolled in another college after graduating. But I've heard of people taking summer classes at cc before going to UT as a freshmen. How is this possible? Would I be able to do the same thing?

You can be admitted as a freshman based on grade level / coursework completed but will still have to reapply as a transfer if you’ve taken classes anywhere after HS. The problem you’ll run into there is that to be eligible to apply as a transfer, you’ll need to have completed 30 hours of college credit before they’ll consider you. But you can still apply for spring if by the end of fall semester you have the necessary 30 hrs. If you’re that opposed to CAP, then you could always enroll in summer and spring courses at a CC and pack all the necessary hours in by the deadlines. The drawback to going this route is that you would no longer be guaranteed admission later as you would be via CAP. You’ll be in the pool with the rest of us transfers cursing the ever-growing freshman classes whose auto-admits are taking up all the spots before our apps have even been looked at.

But are you sure that one semester’s rank is the only thing that kept you out? If that’s the case, you can look into filing an admission decision appeal. If something has changed considerably since your original app was submitted, you can use the formal appeal process and submit documentation along with a letter explaining why you think that it would be worth their time to reconsider in light of new developments in your application. I’m not too clear on the specifics of this process, but it mght be worth a shot. GL!

Hey, I just read through UT appeals info myself in case I get denied. You’ll want to look into this.

Check out the drop-down FAQ things near the bottom of the page. It addresses your situation specifically.

CAP is a much better option than what you want to do. Think about it, go to a lower tier school and get a much higher GPA than a lot of freshman at UT, you’d have an advantage over them when you transfer.
