I was capped at UT Austin (that is, I was offered admission into the CAP program). I am going to appeal because I absolutely would love to go to UT Austin, I think my application was great, and I’m very upset. I was just wondering if being capped is the same thing as being waitlisted. Or if I appeal, could I be placed on the waitlist? Last thing: how long will it take for them to answer my appeal?
- CAP is not the same as waitlisted
- If you win your appeal you will be admitted into the University
- According the the page on appeals, it could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months for them to decide You may want to post your stats so we can determine whether or not you have a good shot at winnin your appeal. Of course, if you want to appeal you should, as it doesn't require much effort and it can really pay off.
Thank you that is very helpful.

There is a problem with appeals, you can only appeal if there was something significant that you didn’t say in your application and you left it out. Otherwise they are just looking over the same application again and they will not accept you.
I’m in a really small class size so my rank isn’t as high as it would be at a regular high school in my district (I’m number 9 out of 95, GPA= 3.79) and I’m also attending an early college in which changing ranks is virtually impossible past sophomore year. Not to mention I can’t accept CAP or PACE because I’ve already done all of my core classes at a community college (over 60 credit hours, Awarded Associates Degree) . Could I appeal on the grounds that my ranking and school are special cases that they did not consider?
Honestly I don’t think your case is worth appealing. They saw your class size in your transcript, and claiming your rank was “hard to change” isn’t really a game-changing piece of information. You need some kind of major excuse like you left off you were a national track or cheerleading champion. Plus UT is selective in a very “unique” way and a lot of people get their dreams crushed without knowing why. In some rare cases, people get accepted to lower Ivy Leagues and denied admission at UT. Also CAP is not the same as the wait list and trust me you don’t want it to be, the wait list is a joke. Last year only like 20 people on the wait list were accepted. If you want to get in to UT badly then PACE or CAP are the best options by far. In your case you might just want to try transferring, like I said an appeal going through for you sounds very unlikely
Thanks for answering! and do you happen to know how high of a college GPA I have to have to get into the College of Natural Science? I want to major in Biology.
Does anyone know what kind of GPA would be required to get into RTF from CAP?
I posted this on a different thread but thought I would ask on this one as well.
My son got CAP and we are appealing the decision since his transrcipt was incorrect (GPA, ranking and service hours) . Anyone know how long does it take for the appeal process to be completed? He is applying to CNS - Neuroscience.
Can he change his major to UGS to increase his chances?
