My dd was capped tonight…Moody was 1st choice. 31ACT 104 gpa 9 AP classes pretty involved at school and in community. At least a dozen of her equally (or more) accomplished friends capped as well. Some with 34 & 35 ACTs and 105+ GPAs. High school is HIGHLY competitive and to be in top 6% is pretty much impossible if you play a sport or are in band…need ~109gpa to rank in top 6%. SHOCKED my dd and these other kids didn’t even get PACE! And yet UT let in many kids with 25-28 ACTs and under 100 gpas. UT really is a mess! Also know some of these kids that got capped got into UVA, Vandy, Notre Dame, UGA & other great schools. Not sure what UT is looking for but they sure missed a bunch of amazing kids. Good luck ya’all!
i was capped as well with a 34 act 3.87 gpa UW and have 3 sports all 4 years while i was a captain two years for football… i was also vice president of my class for all 4 years and was top quarter of my class… i have no idea why
Could it be that UT capped students they think less likely to come anyway?
My DD was capped as well for Mccombs 1st Moody 2nd…top 7% 46/648 (6 students!), 4 year+ EC, several leadership positions (1 was at the state level), 1460 SAT, 31 ACT, AP Scholar w/distinction, internship and entrepreneur etc…needless to say I’m floored by the amazing stats being posted and sad for her and others who really had their hearts set on UT. It was like they met a quota and there was no more “room at the inn”.
Moving on, I would like to ask a serious question while considering ALL of the options for the sake of my student. She will have 21 credits from AP scores, possibly 24 (depending on the school and how they view an extra AP history) by the time she graduates in June. From what I’m reading, the classes available for CAP wouldn’t make sense for someone like her. I can’t see how she could come up with 30 hours and paying for a class she will already have tested out for with a 5 on the AP. I think she would be better served elsewhere and try to transfer in after Fall 2019. Any insight would be helpful.
@TXLove, if your DD wants to major in business she would be better served going someplace else that work for her for 4 years if necessary and try to transfer. The only guarantee for CAP students is COLA. CAP students and external transfer students to other majors are treated the same.
