Car for Summer session (freshman) ?

My d will starting end of June for summer and wanted to know if anyone else had brought their car there for summer. I am guessing that parking would not be as difficult, but wanted to check. Did not know how handy the transport would be for grocery and routine errands without a car there in the summer. Is there anywhere on campus for students to get basic grocery items for dorm and if not what do most students do that do not have transport there? Thanks for any info.

One thing I found out is they don’t offer the Night Nole bus in the summer. This is late night transportation for students.

I would recommend getting a [www.UniversityCabCash.com - University Cab Cash - “The Safe Way Home”](http://www.universitycabcash.com/) card to have ready for taxicabs if necessary. Even if you decide to send a car to campus, this card will encourage a young person to be safe instead of drive or take a ride with someone they don’t know well.

Here are the bus schedules listing normal and summer availability:
[FSU Parking & Transportation](<a href=“Home | Transportation & Parking Services”>Home | Transportation & Parking Services)

The campus buses that take a student near the Publix on Ocala only run 7am-5pm.

Students can take the Starmetro city buses for free with student id.

Thanks so much for your info, the University cab cash program sounds ideal. I had never heard of it before. This is my first off to college and going through the “routine” jitters and wanting to cover all the bases way ahead of time. Have not spent anytime other than Preview Day and a tour at FSU, so don’t know much about the area. This message board has really been a great resource.

At Sam’s Club they sell a heavy duty canvas grocery bag that keeps food cold for 2 hours with strong handles and zippers. Not only is this ecological but it will make transporting groceries back on a bus or someone else’s car much easier for a student.

I forgot to mention The Trading Post on campus which is not open on weekends.
I am not sure if this is open in the summer or not.

if she will be living on campus, i really don’t think a car is necessery. Our s started last summer, lived in glichrist and had no issues not having a car.

the campus is easy to get around, most of the summer classes are near the summer dorms, social activiited are within walking distance etc.

You definitely don’t need a car. Especially if you have a meal plan. Even if you don’t, taking the city bus is completely normal for college students. I was there for the summer and only needed to leave campus once in the whole entire 6 weeks i was there. Anything on campus is definitely within walking distance, and those things off campus aren’t really necessities.
