Car or no car? Traveling b/f from NOVA?

Should my D take a her car to Blacksburg?

Also, if she doesn’t, what’s the best way to go back and forth from NOVA outside of car rides with other NOVA students?

Home Ride. Megabus from Christiansburg.

Pros of having a car at VT:

  • Can come home conveniently, whenever she wants
  • Convenient access to Christiansburg

Cons of having a car at VT:

  • Cost of parking permit
  • Can come home whenever she wants
  • She becomes the “car” in carpool
  • Easy road trips to other places you might not be crazy about

Just an opinion, but having that ability to drop everything and come back home can backfire re: establishing their sense of independence. And without a car, then it’s an excuse for you to drive down and visit on a weekend or two and enjoy Blacksburg a little for yourself.

I think it’s SmartBus that picks up on campus, goes to Roanoke, and then continues to Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax. Long bus ride though as it makes a lot of stops. There is apparently a Facebook or similar group for ridesharing too.
