Career aspirations

I was hoping to open up a discussion about our career aspirations or future goals. When people post their stats we can all see their major, but a major is general in nature and some may not even be indicative of an individuals career goals. Would anybody like to share why they chose their major and what the hope to be at the end of it all?

I'll go first, though it's not really informative. I chose Biochemistry because I'm interested in how things function on a more microscopic level, and how this ultimately leads to our behaviour and the way we are. I'm going to try and change my major to neuroscience because it has a sort of philosophical flair to it. However, I'm still not sure what I want to be...

I am really unclear about what job i see myself doing. I find chemistry fascinating and love learning about it. I am looking forward to transferring so I can see what my options are.

i'm majoring in economics. for a while i wanted to major in political science so i would have neat people to smoke weed with but i realized that was a dumb reason.

I am a communication major. I went into college interested in either majoring in business or psychology. That soon changed to just psychology. I love studying human interactions and I found the field of psychology fascinating. During my second year at community college, I discovered the area of communication. Psychology is an area that is applicable to life, but I felt that communication was more applicable. Also, I am so in love with studying rhetoric, organizational, and interpersonal communication. Enough about that. My ultimate career goal is to become a lawyer.

Japanese/Internation Relations major;; Maybe law schooled followed by a career in law? Maybe, when i'm old and having nothing better to do, I'll get involved in politics? we'll see

In microbiology right now... but because of career goals I may want to change to either biochemistry or molecular biology at UCSD.

Theres simply a lot more flexibility with those two majors as well as opportunities

Sociology major, emphasis in social psychology, orginization and economics. Hoping to go into Human Resources, follow it up with a couple years of experience, then proceed to an MBA program and eventually become an HR Manager, then VP, all the way up to the Big Boss.

Cal PEIS, graduating in Dec '09. Apply to the Columbia accelerated MBA that starts in January and be done by May '11 (I already have many years of middle-management work experience). Go into corporate social responsibility or work for a foundation. Would eventually like to go into venture philanthropy.

I hope to utilize my knowledge of business to give myself an edge in the adult entertainment industry.

Math major. I am doing it out of passion and really have no idea what my career will be. I couldn't NOT major in math though... I am too interested in it.
